I fly my flag proudly and celebrate and thank those 156,000 Allied troops that landed by sea on five beaches.

The code names were: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword. At the same time these soldiers landed on the beach many parachuted behind the German defensive liens.

Sadly about 4,500 of these brave soldiers were killed on D-Day and another 5,800 were wounded or went missing.

All I can say is thank you to those brave soldiers who landed and fought hard and thank you to those ones that gave the ultimate sacrifice, their lives.

There are still about 200 of these brave men alive, I am grateful and proud of them.

I proudly fly the American Flag, my flag for these brave men.

Thank you Endre Barath, Jr. ! Listening to some of the men who were over there honoring their fallen comrades and being honored was very interesting and uplifting. SO much to be proud of. The United States was the world leader then and made sure the whole world was a safer place.  Sadly, the US military is not what it used to be or what it should be.

Did your neighbor fly his flag today? flag

The words bravery and courage do not seem big enough to describe them.   God bless them.

Good morning Endre. As I read your post and comment I am watching the live ceremony and the survivors who're being interviewed. Must say this were the days when men were men. They should be honored. Enjoy your day.

Land of the free because of the brave. I read the other day that American Airlines had a flight just for WWII veterans to visit Normandy, apparently there were 60 passengers. Soon these will only be memories.

The 80th Anniversary, wow! This landing was a monumental task. Gen. Dwight Eisenhower was selected as the Commander and not for his military strategy experience but his logistic expertise. How would all those supplies get to those who survived the landing and the air assault?

It seems that we have more days to celebrate the military than anything else and since wars keep happening, there will surely be more, haha.

Hi Endre- my dad was a photographer on a plane flying over the beaches that day . He was in the Army Air Corps.  He asked his commanding officer if he could have the day off since it was his birthday.
His officer said “Henry , you will not want to miss this day.”

This was a very ballsy quest with coordination and communication of the utmost importance.  Can not imagine the frame of mind of these incredible soldiers.  m

It's amazing to me how D Day came about and how it was not expected. What a major shift in the course of the war.  My father was a Captain in the Army during those years and he, on occasion spoke of what he did to support the armed services. Today is the day to be proud of all those that served and especially to all those that died. Flying our flag high in a perfect way to show our honor and respect to all those soldiers.

Hi Endre... saying thank you almost seems not enough. I was born less than five years after D-Day so to me it's never been ancient history. I was taught early on to have respect and awe for these soldiers to went into battle for us.

It wasn't as wildly celebrated or honored as it should have been.  Lots of people don't even know what D Day is.... pitiful

Thank you for your service and dedication to our country  Endre Barath, Jr.
