Our First Hot Day of 2024

North Dakota is a land of extremes. Those extremes draw some people to North Dakota and those same extremes keep many people away. Usually when talking about extremes we are talking about our winters which can be brutal but please be aware not all North Dakota winters are brutal.

The photo above was after a terrible blizzard back in 1936.

It also gets HOT in North Dakota. Yesterday (June 12th 2024) it was in the 90's but our all time high was 121, oddly enough also obtained in 1936. North Dakota is far enough north to experience −60 °F (−51 °C) temperatures and blizzards during the winter months, but far enough south to experience 121 °F (49 °C) temperatures and tornado outbreaks in the summer.

There is rarely a year that does not include the four seasons but there are times we seem to skip Fall or Spring. Many meteorologists love North Dakota because they love the challenge of predicting the weather here.

That is an amazing picture Will Hamm . I have seen snow drifts going over homes (including the split level home I grew up in) but not a drift like that one.

Hi Bob,
North Dakota is definitely a land of extremes. It sounds brutal, and takes hearty souls to live there!

The temp does make some extreme swings here Carol Williams . When I think about it I don't know what ND would consider normal.

We do have the 4 seasons also, but they tend to be a little more tolerant temperature and snow wise.

I've thought about moving to South Dakota for that exact reason Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 , a little more moderate.

As a young man I dreamed of living in Death Valley with the extreme heat Endre Barath, Jr. but now a days I'm thinking Hawaii.

It is not fun being that sweaty, haha.  I remember doing a fit body BootCamp, I would be dripping sweat like that after the workout, haha.

These days if I am sweating I want it to be because I'm in a sauna by my own choice Brian England . Honestly, I miss exercising but my shoulder still has not healed enough since my accident last November.

We had hot and very muggy days Friday and Saturday but it really cooled down with a strong cold front passing through last night Endre Barath, Jr. I have not heard what the wind speed was but there are a lot of BIG branches on the ground today.

Hello, Bob "RealMan" Timm. I image 90 degrees is considered very hot in your area knowing how cold it gets up there. But we have been having some days of over 100 degrees in San Antonio and it's not even July yet.

I have noticed your temps in the news lately Jerry Newman and I am not envious for sure. 80's are as hot as many of us care to see, 90's are only tolerable with AC and 100's keep us in the house for sure.
