Searcy High Monitors Club 1955 1961 what was t?

What was a Monitors Club?

I like looking through old yearbooks from Searcy AR and have a fairly nice collection of them .  During the mid 50s and early 60s they included a Monitors Club with members and officers. Notice they had a treasurer along with the other normal officers.  Did they have dues? 

 I called a few members that were in school at that time and asked them, "What was a Monitors Club?"  Silence.....and then a response of "I don't know."  They would think and think and perhaps remember something about hall-monitors. What's a hall monitor? 

A little more searching seems to point out books of 1955 through 1961 had the club and nothing about it before or after.  So perhaps Searcy Sleuths can help me with this question.

I googled it and I believe it is student government. Here's a link I found Monitor

This is from Taft College but I believe it is the same concept.

Good one, Barbara. No Monitor Club in my year of 1954. Maybe someone from 1955-1961 will answer the question. I doubt it was a student goverment function because Student Council did that. I'm inclined to believe it was a club for hall monitors especially since there were more girls than boys. I'm anxious to learn what it is.

 

BTW, my daughter is attending her 41st high school reunion today. I got to my 65th SHS reunion.

I don't know what a monitor was in that school.  But, I know we had hall monitors at our school.  I don't recall them in high school, but I do remember them in grade school.
