Montgomery County Heat Emergency Alert

Montgomery County has issued a  Heat Emergency Alert beginning 12 p.m. Saturday, June 22 through 8 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2024. Residents should prepare for heat index values to reach 105 degrees during the afternoon hours. These dangerously hot temperatures and heat index values could cause heat-related illness such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Residents are urged to take precautions to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their pets, against heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Try to stay in an air-conditioned location. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outdoors. Stay hydrated, even if you do not feel thirsty. When possible, take frequent breaks in a cool, shaded area.

County facilities, including libraries, swimming pools, recreation centers and senior centers are places to cool off during normal operating hours. Public locations such as indoor malls could also be utilized.

For additional information on County services, residents can contact MC311 by calling 3-1-1 or 240-777-0311 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. weekdays, or through the www.MC311.com website address available 24/7.

The Executive Director of the Office of Animal Services will enforce Executive Regulations 17-17, Anti Cruelty Conditions for Dogs and Other Pets during this heat emergency. Pet owners must not leave pets unattended in vehicles or outdoors.
