Every Wednesday we plan to share our most recent visit to the  PHOENIX ZOO. We have been members for seven years, it is the best $169.00 a year we have ever spent.

The Great Blue Heron is such a cool bird.  We always stop by when at the Phoenix Zoo. Bill

We hope you enjoy some wonderful photos and stories.

Howler monkeys (genus Alouatta) are fascinating creatures found in the tropical forests of Central and South America. Here are some key facts about them:

  1. Size and Appearance:

    • Howler monkeys are the largest New World monkeys. They have stout builds, completely black faces, and thickly furred tails.
    • Their prehensile tails help them move through the trees with ease.
  2. Vocal Abilities:

    • These monkeys are famous for their loud howls, which can be heard up to three miles away through dense rainforests.
    • They use their vocalizations to communicate with other members of their troop and establish territory.
  3. Diet and Behavior:

    • Howlers are primarily folivores, meaning they mainly eat leaves. However, they also consume fruits and seeds.
    • As they feed, they play a crucial role in seed dispersal within their ecosystem.
  4. Conservation Challenges:

    • Threats to howler monkeys include habitat destructionillegal wildlife trade, and capture for pets or zoos.
    • Conservation efforts aim to protect their natural habitats and raise awareness about their importance.

Remember, these remarkable primates contribute to the biodiversity of their environment, and their distinctive roars echo through the lush canopies of the Neotropics! 🌿🐒

Good morning Bill. Whan I saw your choice to feature this morning, I immediately thought of some things that would be considered inappropriate political comment her in the Rain, so I will keep it to myself. Enjoy your day.

Good morning, Bill... can't say I'd even ever heard of a howler monkey until I read your post this morning. Quite happy none live nearby me.

Bill Salvatore - East Valley we live less than 1,000 feet from a zoo and we hear the monkeys and apes all day long... with an occasional lion's roar thrown in. We used to purchase season tickets when the kids were young but now our zoo has priced themselves beyond reason so we no longer support it.
