Moving can be a whirlwind. Between packing boxes, labeling furniture, and goodbyes, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. But one choice can make a big difference: selecting the right moving company. Here's a quick guide to help you find reliable movers who won't leave you stressed and stranded.

Get Recommendations and Reviews

Start by tapping into your network. Ask friends, family, or colleagues for recommendations based on their recent moves. Look online for reviews on platforms like Google Reviews, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Be sure to read past customer experiences to identify any red flags.

Gather Quotes

Don't settle for the first mover you contact. Get estimates from at least 3 different companies. Be wary of super low quotes, as they might indicate hidden fees or a lack of insurance.

Licensed and Insured

Before you sign any contracts, verify the mover's licensing and insurance. For interstate moves, check the US Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for a valid DOT number [US Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration]. Ensure they have adequate insurance to cover your belongings in case of damage or loss.

Ask Questions

Don't hesitate to ask questions! During the quote process, inquire about their experience, packing services (if needed), how they handle fragile items, and most importantly, their payment structure and any potential hidden fees.

Avoid Red Flags

Be cautious of movers who pressure you for a deposit upfront, have a vague quote process, or lack a physical address. A reputable company will be transparent and professional throughout the entire moving process.

By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to a smooth and stress-free move. Remember, choosing the right movers is an investment in your peace of mind, so take your time and do your research!

Good morning John. We have moved many times over the years mostly with good results. That said, a log distance move from Ft. Myers Florida to downtown Chicago by Father and Son Movers was horrendous. We would have been better off with 1-800-junk! Our latest move was handled by H2H Movers. If you are moving in and around Chicago or even long distance you need to utilize them. They are professional, efficient and organized. Every item was wrapped and prepared for transport. They underpromised and over delivered. Get recommendations and verify. Enjoy your day.
