Budget-Friendly Towns for Retirees in Maryland -
#2 Hampstead
The WorldAtlas once again inspired me to write about 7 budget-friendly towns in Maryland for Retirees. So, here we go with the second in the series, the second town is Hampstead.
Hampstead is a town in Carroll County. It was originally known as the village of Spring Garden and it was a stop on the stage line between Fort Garrison in Baltimore County and Conewago (now Hanover, Pennsylvania) it later changed its name to Hampstead after the town in England, the first European settlers to the area were English immigrants.
Hampstead is a very small town, in 2010 the US Census estimated its population at 6,323 people. The main street has a few shops and recently a new shopping center was built on the outskirts offering more choices for shopping and dining.
Retirees seeking an active lifestyle would be comfortable here as there is a rich supply of outdoor activities. Hampstead is located near Pretty Boy Reservoir and Cascade Lake offers opportunities for hiking and walking the trails and Oakmont Green Golf Course is nearby too.
# | Low | High | Average | Median | |
Active | 17 | 239,000 | 1,250,000 | 624,574 | 560,000 |
Pending | 25 | 169,900 | 1,075,000 | 476,412 | 399,900 |
Closed | 54 | 162,500 | 1,150,000 | 432,161 | 388,750 |
The above chart represents the housing market in Hampstead over the past 6 months. Approximately 10% of the housing market is made up of condominiums, 10% townhomes, and 80% are single-family detached homes. Most of the housing in Hampstead is going to be single-family detached homes and more opportunities for multi-generational living. The one thing I would draw attention to is the distance to health care, the closest Hospital is Northwest Hospital in Randallstown which is about 30 minutes away.
Are you thinking about buying or selling a home in Hampstead? Let's have a conversation.
