My almost 21 year old grandaughter is going to take the real estate exam in FL on July 10th.
She spent many summers with me when she was younger. Since I had the most flexible job (haha), she tagged along with me on photo shoots, showings and closings!
Here is my letter to my grandaughter:
Dear Kaitlynn,
So you have decided to get into real estate! I believe that tagging along with me for many summers you saw what a rewarding and flexible career real estate can be. We had so much fun those summers & I really enjoyed our ice cream breaks! I hope that some of the things I learned in my Real Estate career will help you in your Real Estate journey.
As you know Real Estate is not all fun and games! We didn't just show pretty houses, we took measurements, photos, put out signs in the heat & had to stop our games so I could take calls and write contracts.
You will be a challenged with many different personality types. Learn to read people by their actions and comments so you can do your best help them. People also love to talk about themselves too. Learn to listen because what they say will help you with their transaction.
Texting is ok and most people do it, but call your client sometimes so they can hear how much you are enjoying working with them.
Sometime Real Estate can be tiring. Don't be pushy just to make a sale. Your client will appreciate that and refer you.
Not every one is nice, especially other agents. Stand your ground but nicely!
Follow up is one of the most important things in Real Estate. Don't make your clients wonder what you are doing. Call them and have conversations about a house you saw they might like or a new builder in town.
Please don't get your feelings hurt if someone doesn't use you. There are more fish in the sea. Learn to move on!
Find an affordable program for staying in touch with past clients and thank your clients for their referrals with a call or note.
Never count your commission until you are at the closing table. You can't make real estate about the money ! Make it about the people and the money will come!
Don't spend all your earnings but save some of each check for business expenses and taxes. I know the yucky stuff!!!
Make Real Estate fun like we did! Stop to eat the ice cream! If you are slow and start worrying that you won't have a sale just have faith. God will provide as long as you are putting in the hard work!
Lastly, please learn all the new real estate technology so you can teach it to your old grandma!
I look forward to all the success you will have in your new career and all God has planned for you!
LOVE GT
Prayers appreciated for her Real Estate Exam!
