A great report and infographic brought to us by WalletHub with 50+ fascinating facts and figures about the 2024 July 4th holiday. For example, did you know that:

  • There are some 14,000 fireworks displays around the nation at a cost of $2.7 billion?
  •  42% of Americans will attend a fireworks show?
  • 66% of Americans will attend July 4th picnic?

  • July 4th is America's top beer drinking holiday?

  • $4 billion will be spent on alcohol, most of it on beer?

  • 150 million hot dogs will be consumed on July 4th?

  • Some $9.4 billion will be spent on food for the July 4th holiday?

  • 31% of Americans will purchase patriotic themed merchandise for the July 4th holiday?

  • Some 70.9 million Americans will travel 50+ miles from home to celebrate the July 4th holiday, setting a new record. (That's almost 20 million more than one year ago.)

  • 85% of Americans who travel for the July 4th holiday will do so by car?

  • 57% of Americans own an American flag?

  • 60% of Americans say that inflation is affecting their July 4th plans? (That's 3% more than in 2023.)

  • Over 3 million people watch the fireworks from New York City's Hudson River? (I used to be one of them.)

Good morning Nina. While I have seriously backed off on my consumption of beer, sorry Brian England, I am not surprised that the 4th of July is the day for the largest consumption of beer. Enjoy your day.

I have backed off as well Wayne Martin, I can't even remember the last time I had a beer, haha.

Wayne Martin and Brian England I had one sip of beer when I was 17. I never repeated the experience in the past 58 years... so no problem for me on the cutting back! :) Seriously, happy July 4th to you both.

How interesting! I won't be consuming any of those hotdogs or beer, although I do have a Zinfandel and barbecued bacon cheeseburger on the menu.  I am actually surprised more than half of American households have an American flag. I would have thought it was less, based on the number I see on my travels.

Happy Fourth to You!

Kat Palmiotti good morning, Kat and Happy July 4th. I won't be consuming beer or hot dogs, either. Your menu sounds lovely. I was also surprised to see that number on households owning an American flag, but it's been quite consistent over the years, which gives me hope.

Hi Nina Hollander, Broker - Wow!  Look at all of those hot dogs!  It is funny, that's what we had last night.  I admit I don't usually eat them.  We are having brisket, wine, and watermelon. Some of my family may be part of the beer numbers, it will be yet to be seen.  This is a great post!  I enjoyed the read.  Happy 4th!

Thank you very much, Nina, for this interesting post.

The residents of our community are lucky that the holiday activities are taking place this morning. A heat advisory is posted for this afternoon and a thunderstorm is also possible this afternoon.

Roy Kelley hi Roy... I repeat myself... same here. The heat is just about tolerable right now, but the afternoon will be a scorcher.

Nina- I've missed your informative infographics!!!!!  I love the stats on the increase in items such as beer, beef, and frankfurters. I am not surprised that 78% feel as if the country is going in the wrong direction.

Kathy Streib very sad that so many Americans feel our country is going in the wrong direction. Of course, I'm one of them! I have posted these infographics on my website blog... I'll try to remember to post them here as well in future.

Nina, what a great infographic, and would not even TOUCH a beer!   I had a very non-traditional dinner last night - stir-fried veggies and a couple glasses of wine.

Nina Hollander, Broker - that is an amazing infographic! It reads like the Declaration of an American Fourth of July celebration with lots of interesting facts and figures! Fourth of July is such an important date for celebrations. It was very quiet in my house last night. The day before, I went shopping in Southlake, and couldn't believe the number of people walking to get their spaces picked for the day before the Fourth's annual celebration. I asked a lady and she told me, the Town decided to put the event together the night before. WOW! It was packed!!! Yet, I was glad to see so many families believing the Fourth of July celebration is worth the efforts and their time to be together for such an honorable holiday.

As I enjoyed the quiet of the night, I realized the boy next door grew up and wasn't blowing off fireworks, like he traditionally did in the past without getting caught. Kids do grow up!

I gave up hot dogs when I was still a mom feeding my kids and drinking alcohol is no longer a part of my diet and beverage of pleasure. I guess I grew up too!

I hope you had a very nice Fourth of July and I wish you and your hubby good health and good food too!

Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP thanks, Patricia. We had a nice, quiet day. I rarely eat hot dogs... maybe once every so many years, but when I do, I enjoy it. I also rarely drink alcohol... but a glass of good champagne or a nice prosecco, or a great expresso martini is nice now and then.

I hope you had a wonderful July 4th holiday, Nina.

We had family so I was not online much and missed this. Those are certainly some impressive statistics! I did not, nor did anyone in our house, contribute to the hot dog consumption stats.

Jeff Dowler, CRS hi Jeff... we had a very quiet Fourth. I'm recovering from a hip replacement in anticipation of a second hip replacement later this summer. My husband underwent a corneal transplant on July 2nd. It's the summer of surgeries for our home.
