Friday Fun…Groupie??

Every few years the discussion of GROUPS rears its head. And then poof…it disappears until brought up again.

There was a question in the Q&A by Michael J. Perry and a post by Thomas J. Nelson, REALTOR ® e-Pro CRS RCS-D Vets  this week.

(Could there be a Star Wars Group?)

Groups in theory would be a good place for members with similar interests to exchange ideas.

(WATCH OUT…This is another shameless plug for the group Bananatude.)

If you want to investigate the Groups and learn which are the most active, click on the  “Groups” tab, and on the right side of the page, you’ll see MOST ACTIVE GROUPS.  If you’re interested in the groups…join us at BANANATUDE. I am a moderator and assure you, we have a very involved Founder in Anna "Banana" Kruchten .

And so, for Friday Fun, what groups, if any are you in?

Which ones would you recommend??

Hello Kathy - a search of AR groups can be a rabbit hole of randomness.  And you're right the discussion is raised on occasion and then seemingly hops away.  Only to return in multiple ways.  What's up with that, doc?  🐰🐇🐰

Hi Michael Jacobs it would be wonderful if the Groups did what they were designed to do.

I am in a lot of groups, but I have never really known what they are for, other than an extra 25 points for posting in them, haha.

Brian England - 25 points - I am not sure I understand your comment.

I think that our blog posts get an extra 25 points if we share them to 5 groups Michael Jacobs

Brian England - ActiveRain Member Support - I wasn't aware of that, but I know you continue to score many points in the competitive AR backboard.  🏀

It's just one of the things I learned early on Michael Jacobs so I continue to do it, haha.  I like that activity gets rewarded in more ways than one!

Points for sharing to groups is not on the official Points activity list.

Jul 05, 2024 08:57 AM

Brian England not to discourage you from posting in groups but I don't think you get extra points for posting in a group.

I will test it out Kathy Streib since I do recall that in the past, an extra 25 points was awarded if the post was shared in 5 groups.  I really don't see any benefit from the groups, other than that, so enlighten me if other benefits exist?  Can't I already see all posts by members in ActiveRain, and I can even choose to just see the posts from people that I follow in the Rain?

Good morning Kathy. I joined several groups but am only active in one these days, Bananatudes. One of these days I may have to drop into the "old farts" group. I certainly qualify. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin as one Old Fart to another, I would recommend it.

Good morning Kathy,

Good topic! I am a member of several groups like BananaTudes, Old Farts Club, Bartender Make it a double, Almost Anything Goes, Active Rain Challenges and others and try to post to them.

Hi Kathy,
This is certainly an ongoing issue. I wonder if we could get some volunteers to contact Founders to see if they will either go in and delete their group or allow a new moderator to be appointed. Then we have the issue of who will want to become active moderators.

Jul 05, 2024 09:59 AM
Anna "Banana" Kruchten

I agree Carol Williams . Simply because 'rules' and 'guidelines' were set up for Groups way back in the early days - doesn't mean they can't be changed to FIT what is more accurately going on with the vast majority of groups - which is NOTHING.  If you continue to do the same thing over and over and expect different results - well we all know what that creates - more worthless whatever!

Keep what's working - ACTIVE groups with active moderators, founders and members. Delete the rest.

Jul 05, 2024 11:35 AM
Kathy Streib

Carol Williams that would be quite the task!  It would be nice to focus on the ones members tend to gravitate towards and do what we can to keep them current.

You know Kathy I quit thinking about all those worthless groups years ago.  Why waste my energy on something that clearly isn't working.  That makes no sense to me. And that goes for any part of my life!

I saw a NETWORKING opportunity with ActiveRain and that is when BananaTude was founded 9/9/2009. We are a networking and relationship building community. What's not to appreciate about that! For those that don't like to network, well, that's fine by me. Personally I enjoy meeting new folks and learning and enjoying life together.  That's just me. Little Miss Tude!  And I can bet cha there are many other Tudes that think and feel the same way.

I know you do!  You've done so much for BananaTude and ActiveRain over the years and I so appreciate YOU! I remember clearly the day I called you in   early 2010 and said - can you help me?  BananaTude is getting so busy I can't keep up with it all.  Would you consider being a moderator.  You jumped right in and here we are today still enjoying and creating in BananaTude!

You Rock the Tudes!  As do all the moderators!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten I'm with you. I have been focusing on the groups that are active and never visit the others.

I too remember when you asked me to help moderate!!!!! Will never forget it!!!   It's the 'Tude from you that keeps this group going.

I was surprised to see Old Farts Club listed among the most active.  I started that group a decade ago as a joke.  We had 12 original members.  But, I have loved the comradery.  I need to start looking for an assistant moderator.  As I notice other life activities, are making me less active as I should be.
