Motivational Monday…Let’s Play!

Today is National Be a Kid Again Day so let’s do just that!!!

When we were kids, my cousins and I made up many of the games we played. We had toys and dolls and an assortment of board games but still liked making games up. One was “Off the ground.” It was like playing chase but to be safe you had to be “off the ground” even if only to stand on a brick.

Do you remember playing as a child?

Having a Young at Heart or Childlike attitude comes with healthy benefits!

-You may have an increased life expectancy

-You have a better emotional well-being

-You may have better brain health

-Better resiliency and ability to adapt

What we can do to…

-KEEP LEARNING- never stop. Take classes, read, or learn a new language.

-STAY POSITIVE-don’t become a curmudgeon

-LAUGH-make it a point to laugh. Find the humor in people and things rather than the negative

-TRY SOMETHING NEW or different-you’re never too old to try something new. Try a new dish or way of cooking something!

-SET GOALS- they don’t have to be like the goals we set when we were younger. However, have something to look forward to or strive for.

-STAY ENGAGED - join a church or book club. Arrange weekly lunches with friends.

Have fun this week…get out and be a kid again!!!

Never underestimate the importance of having fun.

Good morning Kathy. Must say watching the grandkids makes me a kid again. That said, I don't move like I did when I was a kid. Just a fact of old age, but I try. Enjoy your day.

That sounds like a fun game that you and your cousins made up when you were kids.  I am sure there were games that we made up as well when we were kids, but none of them are coming to my mind right now, haha.

Good morning Kathy,

What a delightful post this Monday morning! I think your childhood game off the ground sounds like fun! We played so many games and a favorite was hide and seek! Especially as it began dusk and we could use flash lights. I started playing hide and go seek with Hudson and Beckett when they were little in the house and they still like to play! When they were leaving on the 4th of July they were no where to be found but I knew they'd be hiding in my home office under the desk or off to the side of it. Yup ..that is where we found them!

This is good advice to share. I spent part of the morning shopping at Costco...I found everything on the list provided by Chef Dolores. So, I guess that counts as a positive moment. The real challenge was being out on this very hot day.

Hi Kathy,
When I was young, the neighborhood kids were always playing one game or another. Fun times.  I'd like to think I embrace all of your suggestions to keep us "young".

Good Morning Kathy! I remember all kinds of games we used to play as kids and with the whole neighborhood too! Lots of fun memories. I don't think I've ever stopped playing. Fun is my middle name!  Banana! Oh boy have we created a lot of fun parties.  I didn't post about them last year but I just might catch up today and share the crazy stuff we were up to.  Fun! Fun!  Fun!  In fact I was just thinking about what to create for a fall party this year.  By then all will be in full swing and I'll be ready to rock and roll!

Kathy Streib - I was happy to read Anna "Banana" Kruchten playful childhood post, crediting you for the inspiration. Hers was just as delightful as yours! I was also from that generation when kids didn't stay home, we went outside to play and we had no choice but to make up our own games. Or we played board games or cards. And boy, like you, and Anna, we had lots of fun, no drama, lots of laughter too!

Those were the days when summer vacation lasted much longer than today! We made every second count, didn't we. Our's was really the most creative generation!

I was a kid again today.  I took a little drive up to Old Town, Folsom, and enjoyed an ice cream cone from Snooks.  They have a bench in front of the shop, so I sat and watched the world pass by.  It was a tad cooler today.  It only reached 100 degrees.

Kathy, great ideas to keep healthy in mind and body!  We need to get off the couch, unplug the TV, put down the cell phone, stop spending hours on social media.... and...

pick up a guitar, ride a bike, meet some friends, talk to some business buddies, see a sick friend, meet up with a relative, and try something new....  THX

One of the campgrounds we love to stay at has a huge grassy public area with just the right amount of big trees spaced apart. As we were taking our daily walk we saw a group of kids (and even a couple of adults) playing an interesting game. One person turns their back while the others all choose trees to hide behind.

I don't remember the exact rules of the game...hiders were jumping from one tree to another trying not to be seen...if seen they were out. They were having so much fun. We stood and watched for sometime.
