Tuesdays Treasures…Hurricanes, Generators, Tornadoes  Friends, Family, and Coffee

There is always something to be grateful for…even during a hurricane. Those of us along the coast of Texas have been watching Beryl’s track even before she hit Jamaica. Would she hit the eastern coast of Mexico or Padre Island? Head in towards Austin and San Antonio? Lose strength after passing through the Yucatan Peninsula and simpley bring Texas a lot of rain??

…or is she saying “SURPRISE HOUSTON” I’m coming for YOU!!!

It has been my misfortune or fortune to go through many hurricanes, even one in the Bahamas. One of the things I’ve learned is that the forecasters can predict and guess but only the hurricane knows where it will go.

Therefore, you have to keep your eyes on the weather and radar. Don’t rely on what they tell you on Saturday because by Monday morning the whole storm may have shifted.

Thankfully, we still had power when we woke up so we were able to make our morning coffee and fill a thermos for when (not if) the power went kaput.

We had to wait for the eye and major wind and rain to pass to start ours up but it’s on now and is working like a charm. We don’t have the whole house that comes on automatically but it’s a system Larry built and goes through the breaker box.

We had two just a few months ago and they are more scary than a hurricane. Our Go To room was prepared with things we’d need.

I appreciate my friends who have texted and called to check on us. And happy to be with my family where we are all there for each other.

Now…If only I can figure out a way to post this…including some photos…without internet and weak cell service…

Good morning, Kathy... you've been much on my mind as I've followed updates on this hurricane. Amazing that you've now lived in two places that are subject to them.  Happy you survived the onslaught and are able to communicate. Hopefully, you won't be seeing another one any time soon.

My mom lost power until 3am. She keeps the A/C so high, I think it actually cooled her place down.

Decades of open burning at fire place, burning gas, the storms are getting stronger yearly. I have been very fortunate being on coast in California all these years to avoid another storm.  I actually received a reserch grant working on the generation of severe storm mechanism and left for green nuclear energy engineering work. Both I felt I contributed to a good cause.

Hi Kathy,
So glad you and your family are safe, and have alternative power. I can't believe you got a blog post out today. Did you get your hotspot working, or do it on your phone?

Kathy, glad to hear you made it through the hurricane, and tornadoes are very scary.  We get them here in Denver on occasion.

Kathy you've been on my mind since I heard it possibly could hit Houston.  Thank goodness Larry installed the generators.  At least you've got some juice rather than squat.   I grew up with Tornadoes in MN and they were scary.  We spent many a night in the basement way back in the safe room.  My Aunt's lake home was totally destroyed by a head on hit from a Tornado.  And sadly they had just completed the new build a few months previous.  What a mess! I recall vividly going out the next day to see how we could disaster. It even relocated the boats from the dock.. Thankfully nobody was hurt - which in itself was a miracle.

The best we can do is tighten down the outside of the house, gather the provisions and batteries and hope we don't need much of anything.

I've never been through a hurricane.  But, while watching news coverage of a few of them, I don't want any part of them.

We have the winter storms but luckily for us hurricanes and tornados are not that common. I don't think I would do well under that pressure. LOL
