Harpist for Weddings and Events in Provo, Utah

I met Chloe Jacobs at our neighborhood’s Literary Guild event.

One of my neighbors and friends hosted the event at her home. She is a very well-known organist. She even played the organ in Israel. She is one amazing accomplished world-cultured woman and I am so blessed to know her. She is well into her 80’s and I pray she will remain with us for years to come.

Her husband turned their garage into her organ room and opened it up to the living room so that an audience can enjoy a full organ with the pipes and all. It is an amazing site to see and to experience the depth of the sound from that organ.

A photo I took of Chloe Jacobs and her harp. Hiring a harpist is perfect for making important events more special

The harp is a beautiful instrument and the sound is angelic.

Chloe Jacobs, the harpist in Provo, Utah, adorned us with a beautiful recital. She also taught us about the harp, and many things you may not know about the harp.

The harp she brought with her, with the help of her husband, weighs about 100 pounds! The cover for the harp looks like a big oven mitt.

Chloe Jacobs played a couple of classical arrangement and a fun early rock version from Elvis Presley.

She plays for weddings around Utah county, mostly in Provo and Orem. If you are looking for a harpist to play at your wedding or any event contact Chloe Jacobs at:

Interesting Facts that Make the Harp Perfect for Your Next Celebration in Provo

Here are some interesting facts about harps you may not know:

  1. The harps are made by hand. They are large instruments and it takes a lot of labor to put one together.
  2. Harps are expensive. The harp Chloe uses, is one her parents bought for her when she was 15 years old, it was $20,000 back then. I am sure the price is higher now.
  3. You have to tune the harp before every performance and sometimes more than once during a performance.
  4. The harp strings are expensive, the longer ones cost about $50 to replace, just one!
  5. The sound does not come out from the harp where the harpist is sitting, but rather from some holes in the back.
  6. You never use your pinkies on the strings:) The pinky is too small to reach the strings.

Here is a Video about how a harp is made, by hand:

5 More Fun Facts Most People Don’t Know About the Harp

1. Ancient Origins: The harp is one of the oldest known instruments, with depictions dating back to 3000 B.C. in ancient Mesopotamia. It’s fascinating to think that people have been enjoying the soothing sounds of the harp for over 5,000 years!

2. Variety of Sizes: While most people picture a large, grand pedal harp when they think of this instrument, harps come in various sizes. The smallest harps can be as tiny as 10 inches tall and are known as “lap harps.” They can be played while being cradled in the player’s arms.

3. Pedal System: The modern concert harp has a complex pedal system that allows the player to change the pitch of the strings. There are seven pedals, one for each note of the diatonic scale. By adjusting these pedals, harpists can play in different keys without retuning their strings.

4. Symbolism: The harp has been a symbol of many things throughout history, including love, hope, and heaven. In ancient Egypt, the harp was seen as a symbol of great prestige and power. In Christian iconography, it’s often associated with King David and heavenly music.

5. String Materials: While early harps used strings made from animal gut, modern harps often use a combination of gut, nylon, and metal-wound strings. Each type of string produces a unique tone, allowing the harpist to achieve a wide range of sounds.

I hope you found these facts intriguing! The harp is a beautiful instrument with a rich history and unique characteristics.

Loved your post Katerina Gasset   reminded me when I lived in Austria and my 3rd grade teacher's father was an Organist in a Church and my parents and I became friends with them and he would play an organ concerto in the evening just for us in church... it left me with a love for classical music way back when... 1964/65 time frame, Endre

How wonderful! I do actually know a little bit about harps as my sister was a harpist (she's since given it up) and she not only did weddings, but was also in international competition in Israel many years ago. So I was used to hearing harp practices. It's a beautiful instrument.
