Wordless Wednesday- The Power of Power

There are things we use, need, and cannot do without.  One of those things is power or rather electricity.

We along with 2 million other customers in our area lost power thanks to Beryl. In May of this year we were without power for 4 days. That is small compared to weeks or more  without power after a hurricane in South Florida.

On Facebook there is a cute question/ funny comment that goes “How many turn the light switch on when they head to their bathroom even when they have no power?”

Been there-Done that !

We are fortunate to have a generator, but there are many not so lucky. Larry and I walked down our street last night and could hear all of the generators humming…loudly!

Walking into our local grocery store I saw these people -plugged in and trying to recharge and check in with life!

Even under cover it had to have been 80 degrees!

The power of power!

If it weren't for electricity, we'd all be watching television by candlelight

Aww Michael Elliott thank you! I’ve been checking on my almost 90 year old neighbor who doesn’t have a generator. His sons want him to stay with them but he wants to stay put

I saw a post from someone who was sleeping in their Tesla in your area because their power was out but it was nice and cool in their Tesla, haha.  I have yet to stay the night in My Boy Blue, but I have been tempted to try it sometime on the road instead of getting a hotel room since I have 6'8" of space in the back.

Brian England we could do that in our Prius but we’d have to leave the car on. How is he keeping the car charged?

It doesn't take much battery to run the air and such Kathy Streib and I guess if he needed a charge, he could do as the people in your picture charging their phone, haha.

Good morning Kathy. Television by candlelight! It says it all. Electricity is a vital part of our life. And, while in Florida, without power, I to flipped the switch out of habit. Enjoy your day.

Nina Hollander, Broker our friends are staying with us. So we watched Under the Tuscan Sun on our DVD player. It got dark and we realized we’d had all the lights off!

Kathy Streib you were very smart to have a generator... it's clearly come in quite handy more than once.

Nina Hollander, Broker just before Beryl, we saw trucks with Generac generators on the road. We never had one in FL believe it or not.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not LOL Larry's been "testing" what we can do on his system and we work our washer and dryer, microwave, but more than anything...we can work our Jura Automatic coffee maker.

Mike McCann Nebraska Land Broker Awww thank you. We have it lucky. There are many without generators. I saw a family trying to find a hotel that was available..they have two young children in a home that is probably 85 degrees inside. The closest hotel with power was 100 miles away.

Good morning Kathy,

You really don't realize how  dependent you are on electricity until something like this happens. You are so smart to have a generator! One more reason why we are not ready to be dependent on our electric grid...its just not ready to handle it all!

Kathy we take many things we deeply depend on for granted, that is until we don't have them and realize how much we can't do without them.

I am praying that everyone soon gets back to normal life with electricity on and working per normal. Your area gets hit far to often to not  be prepared with a backup system like you two are Kathy.  Thank goodness for generators!

Glad to hear all is OK other than dealing without power. I think we do take it for granted sometimes.

And I have done the light switch thing myself on more than one occasion.

Losing power is such an inconvenience. We had a whole house generator in one of our previous homes and it was amazing. Rick's favorite part was that our driveway lights were on when the rest of the neighborhood was dark. We had a very long driveway with four lamp posts so it was pretty impressive. LOL

Now with a much smaller home we rely on a generator that allows us to plug in the refrigerator and tv.

We have lightbulbs in four lamps that come on without electricity and they are awesome. You can use them in the lamp, or you can remove them and carry them around like a flashlight.

Worst thing for us is that we have a well so no water if power goes out.
