Working a Little Harder for that Meal

Working a Little Harder for that Meal

We just had the garden areas cleaned up and fresh mulch added. It all came out very nice.

One of the negatives, however, was the area below the bird feeder, where the ground critters would scratch for the leftovers. I noticed the mulch had been disturbed but didn't see the reason until early Friday afternoon.

It was as though the chipmunk was trying to burrow a new home, but then it moved.  Another was doing the same.

It may take a few days for enough to be dropped from the feeder so that they can stop the digging.

Ed, Chipmunks are pretty clever when it comes to finding food. They're definitely working hard for their meal!

I wonder if they were actually hiding food for the winter.

Good morning Ed. You may have had the excess food covered in mulch, but those chipmunks are willing to work a bit harder for the bounty. A lesson in never giving up. Enjoy your day.

Good morning, Ed. I trained my dog not to dig in the yard... but I have a feeling it will be a tad tougher to train a chipmunk!

They certainly work hard for their food, perhaps you should make it a little easier for them, haha.

We had chipmunks in our yard for many years but they have disappeared. I wonder if they became meals for the foxes in the neighborhood.

We have a bird feeder that we hang at about 4 feet. We have large cranes (the bird) that walk through our yard and their head is high enough to peck out all the food. Funny to watch.

Ground critters have a great day digging for dropping of bird feed!!!

Ed, sad when you work so hard to make your yard to nice, and then some rodent wants to ruin it!
