Zoom Call with Jan Green NAR's Sustainability Summit
Jan Green made her presentation as a follow up to her presentation made at the recent conference.
She offered that there were 3 field trips each highlighting the efforts to build in cold climates with energy saving features. They toured the US Bank Stadium, Minneapolis Hilton, and the Convention center.
She liked the tour of the stadium for the size of the facility which can hold over 73,000 attendees depending on the event.
One of the features were the roof panels that were made of a special translucent material and the construction that allowed the water to flow off the roof and be diverted to the nearby Mississippi River. The roof itself is the largest of its kind in the US spanning over 240,000 Square feet.
Sustainability
Sustainability is defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the abilities of future generations to meet their needs.
She spoke of the great manure crisis of 1894, where it was feared that London was going to be mired in extremely deep horse manure as so many were using horses drawn carriages as transportation. Now the concern is the ozone layer due to fossil fuels.
She spoke of the house she bought to use as a model for her energy efficiency construction and with the goal of having no electric bill at all.
She has reduced her costs immensely and last year got her total costs down to $350 and with some modifications down the road to a hot water heater she will be literally 100% energy efficient.
There were conversations on getting a home an efficiency rating and how some states are now requiring Energy Audits prior to placing homes on the market.
I was not able to get all of the call as I had internet issues. For this I am sorry.
Jan Green is highly involved in green construction and makes many presentations across the country.
