Check on your friends and family who got hit by Beryl

This is just a friendly post to check in on your friends and family in the Houston and Surrounding areas.  Hurricane Beryl was a Category 1 storm that did a lot of damage.  There were very strong wind gust that took down lots of trees and power lines in the N Houston areas including Conroe, Willis, Huntsville, Livingston, etc.  Other areas were hit as well, Katy, Pearland, Sugarland, and all the way to the coast.

At least 14 people died in this storm and there are lots of people that have no running water, no electricity, no generators, etc.  The hotels are booked, and some hotels are price gouging.

Sometimes it is after a storm when people need the most help, especially our elderly population.  My parents have a generator but their A/C was not working.  It was 90 degrees in their house.  Thankfully, we have other family members close by who were able to give them a place to stay until their power is restored. We currently have no electricity or water, and they are estimating next week.  We have resources so we are good.

Sometimes people will say they are fine, but when you physically go and check on them, you find out they are not.

Just give them a call, or drop by if you are able.  Have a great day!

We are still working - thanks to businesses with internet!

Brenda, so glad it is back on, cannot imagine that heat & humidity and no A/C, plus all the food that needs refrigeration!

Hi Brenda- I'm in Cypress...where are you???  We got our power back on Thursday. I just checked and there are 800K+ who still lack power.

I love your point about checking on others...in person if you can. Often they won't tell you over the phone if they need assistance.

I heard some people looked for a hotel and the nearest vacancy was 100 miles away.

We are back on Kathy!  Thank you so much for reaching out.  I am so glad you all got it back on Thursday.  I am so thankful my parents were able to stay with my brother.  It was so stressful having them at home.  We all made it through thank God!

Thanks for your prayers Brian.  They are very much appreciated and needed.  We didn't get nearly as bad as others, but you just don't realize how much you like electricity and running water until there is none!  Have a great evening!

Thank you, Brenda, for sharing this important reminder to check in on friends and family affected by Hurricane Beryl, especially the elderly population who may be most vulnerable during such times of crisis!

Hi Lew, you are so correct.  I have so many neighbors who are elderly and I was very concerned about them.  It sounds like everyone is okay thank God!  Thanks for stopping by!

A good reminder! I lived in The Woodlands, Conroe, Montgomery area for 35 years. Those storms are scary!

Hi Dr. Paula McDonald.  You are right, these storms are scary.  I grew up in Houston and played on the Lake growing up.  My family has had property up here since the 70's or maybe the 60's.  I can't remember storms like this one, but I know there were a few.  I am so thankful I wasn't home when the storm hit.  We have over 100 trees on our property and they are mostly 80 ft.  It is scary!  It is a beautiful area to live.

Hi Dorie.  I just found out yesterday a friend of mine still didn't have power restored.  She has her elderly father staying with her.  Sometimes it's even those closest to us we don't realize.  Anyway thanks for your kind words!  Have a great day!

Yes, Roy some are still waiting. I just got a text from a friend and hers came back on at 5:15 this morning. She is so excited to start cleaning.  It sounds like it is all starting to come back on.  It's been a while since I have had to live through one. We just need to appreciate all we have.
