Cats Do the Darndest Things

By
Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty of California, Inc. CA DRE #01490977

We were enjoying a glass of wine before dinner last night and heard a noise upstairs. Usually when that happens it's our cat, Fiona, getting into some mischief.

Sure enough, we looked up and there she was, perched on the wooden post at the top of the stairs. The top of the post is about 4 feet high and is round, only about 5 inches in diameter, so she was sitting about 15 feet off the ground on a post top not as big as she is. She is clearly quite the acrobat, and a good jumper, but we were both a little freaked out.

We had to wonder why she did this, and I suppose the answer is because she can.

Our cat, Berkeley (no longer with us) did the same thing 1 time so we should not be too surprised.

There are the rules of man, the rules of nature and then there are cats with no rules.

Very true. Cats just seem to do what they want, when they want.

Hi Jeff- a cat not afraid of heights!!   I came home from work once and our Baby Grey was perched on our fish tank. Thankfully there was a cover on it.

Definitely not afraid of heights.

Good thing you had a cover...sounds like Baby Grey would have had some fishing fun otherwise.

One of our cats years ago murdered one of our kids' hamsters that had escaped from their cage - it was a traumatic time as a parent!

Jeff Dowler, CRS - If you were relaxed while sipping your wine, I'll bet your heart started beating fast when you saw where she was sitting! Oh, my gosh, cats have no fear and they do the strangest things. I've been told by the police department if a cat is smart enough to climb that high, they are smart enough to figure out how to get down.

How they do it, I don't know! So, when she finally got down, did you and your wife finish the bottle of wine?

Cats CAN be pretty entertaining Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP

I went up and retrieved her, then finished my glass of wine! LOL.

Cats seem to have no fear, haha.  I would be terrified if I was sitting on that perch like that.

Wow, Jeff! When I had Siamese cats they could jump on places I never imagined they could reach.

Jeff Dowler, CRS I'm still trying to figure out decades later how those cats would get up to where they did.

Good morning Jeff. Not really a cat fan since I am allergic. That said, my sister-in-law had 4 cats, three outdoor cat and one indoor cat. The outdoor cats were amazing at sitting atop a 6 foot narrow fence. No fear, just challenges. Enjoy your day.

Thank you, Jeff, for sharing the delightful and humorous story of your cat Fiona's impressive acrobatic feat here on ActiveRain and reminding us that even in our daily lives, there's always room for surprise and joy!.

Hi Lew Corcoran What a nice thing to say.

Fiona does bring surprise, and joy, into our lives as fur friends tend to do.

Jeff, one of my kitties (Lucy) is quite the acrobat as well, and worry when she perches on a railing 20' or more above the ground.  Someone they are ok, and must like the view.

Hi Joan Cox

As sure-footed as they seem to be it's still scary to see them do things like this.

Hi Dorie Dillard Austin TX

It still freaks me out to look at this photo. Fiona does what she wants when she wants and no doubt she will do this again sometime, whether we witness it or not. How she managed to jump up onto the post and no further is a mystery - it's a wooden post and not something she could grip with her claws.
