Prospect CT Summer Colors  Special Hydrangeas

It has been an exceptional yer for blooms all over the state, especially hydrangeas. The mix of heat, water and some care has made almost anybody that has a hydrangea look like the absolute greatest gardener.

I posted of our blue hydrangeas, earlier and they are a wall of colors, so much so that the stalks cannot support the weight of the blossoms.

We have a smaller bush that was given to my wife some years ack as a Mother's Day gift and aside from the first year, never grew a bloom. A portion of that was the activity of dear chewing all the leaves and buds before they could get a start. This year I was ahead of the deer and the blossoms got a chance and they are special.

As best as I can determine, the flower is called   Tokyo delight with large white leaves and a blue cluster center core.

The white portion of the flower look like silk petals. I imagine that would be the treat the deer went after. There are still some buds attempting to bloom so there should be a lot more to appreciate.

Those look really nice!  I would have to rely upon the elements to make my garden look good since I am not much of a gardener myself, haha.

Hello Ed - nature continues to be interesting as sometimes there are blooms aplenty then little or no color.  Or vice versa.  Discovering what is happening around us or even in the garden can be non-stop entertainment.

Good morning, Ed... I adore hydrangeas! I have two bushes on the side of my house and one in the back. The two on the side are supposed to be blue, but this year they were blue early in June... and then the heat really stressed them out and they've been mostly white and looking stressed no matter how much water I give them.

Here is a neat trick if you own an iPhone. Take a picture of the flower. Open the photo in your phone. Touch the image. Slide it up. Check out the information below the photo. "Look up Plant" shows on my phone. If I hit that link, it says your plant is in the Hydrangea family.

Good morning Ed,

I absolutely love Hydrangeas and yours are gorgeous! Unfortunately with our temperatures they don't grow well here. I have to enjoy them in a bouquet of flowers.

Hi Ed,
I have 3 blue hydrangeas in my yard. Your post reminds me that I need to get out there and trim off the flowers that are past their prime.

Hi George:

Your hydrangeas are certainly beautiful - that one plant is very prolific. That second photo looks like the lacecap hydrangeas we had at one of our houses. At least that was the name I knew them by.
