Breaking Really Bad

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

We're all addicted to watching the news these days, and it's fast breaking news. Everything is changing at lightning speed, and it's hard to keep up with.  I don't know about you, but I'm getting tired of seeing every single story with the headline "Breaking News".. It's like in high school and college...If you run that damn yellow highlighter through every line in the text book... well then nothing is highlighted.  So if you title everything as Breaking News, then nothing is Breaking News.

It's The Boy Who Cried Wolf all over again.  Breaking News was designed to try to catch my attention, but if you use it over and over (and over) again... I'm sorry... I just become inured to it.

You might as well have created a news program entitled "Breaking News".  I think they should consider hiring the hosts to be Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul (of Breaking Bad fame... get it?  get it?!)

Good morning Alan,

OMG..love your post! I have to admit I'm so tired of hearing and seeing BREAKING NEWS! I'm beginning to feel "so now what is new?" There has definitely been things that have happened that are newsworthy but I'm beginning to feel on information overload! You are spot on I think a new show should be formed called Breaking News hosted by Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul might be the answer.

There are really only a handful of news items that are truly "breaking news"... I remember commenting when they broke in about the assassination attempt.. I said out loud "well, that really IS breaking news!!"

Hi Alan- I could not agree more. BREAKING NEWS loses its impact when every piece of news is "breaking." Another pet peeve of mine is "You'll see this only here on XYZ channel..."  Breaking Bad...I have visions of a head on the back of a turtle.   ugh.

LOL... I'd forgotten about the turtle.

The rush to be first, without regard to whether it's correct news, seems to be the trend.  I'm finding Facebook is often the first place I see most major news (with a strong need to verify..how many times can one celebrity die over the years??).  My phone gives me alerts for most true major breaking news.  It's been a lot of years since I last watched a local or national new show.

the rush to be first... that rush to have the hot news... is critical these days.. isn't it?

Breaking News - we're all going to stop watching as you news people really did break the news!  It is so annoying......I tend to not watch much because of it.  And...I do like the idea of the two breaking bad guys with a breaking news hour!  Good one!!

I totally agree and just thought the same thing a few days ago. "Breaking" news should be for something HUGE.
