For years, mankind has looked for a way to tell the future as in crystal balls. My sense is the reasons for this include the lack of being prepared, fear and internal insecurities.
Then from my executive leadership and sales coaching practice, I observed many individuals seeking what I called the magic blue rocks or what others would called the quick fix.
In either case, the ongoing desire for crystal balls or magic blue rocks appears to be also present within the real estate industry by both real estate agents as well as sellers and buyers.
For example, all the changes in real estate have exploded with “experts” providing cloudy crystal balls and even in some instances magic blue rocks. Yet, in reading all these articles by “experts” most have been covered by Zig Ziglar a true sales guru. There are also current and past sales “experts” who have discussed the basics of sales, relationship building and the overall sales process for the last 50 plus years.
Then there are those clients and customers continually asking something like “What do you think this property is worth going forward?”
In Arizona, the AZ Association of REALTORS® (AAR) created the MARKET CONDITION ADVISORY (MCA). This document was vented by attorneys. The MCA basically states markets go up and markets go down, there is no promise for future increased financial equity. This MCA is the response to the desire for crystal balls or magic blue rocks.
For those real estate agents or REALTORS® wanting success in this current market has always been the same as in past markets by understanding and employing a consistent sales process. Unfortunately, many agents lack basic sales skills along with emotional intelligence because they were exposed by others promoting the crystal ball or magic blue rocks.
Real estate agents and REALTORS® should first remember there are no crystal balls when it comes to any industry especially one that is always changing. Second, the magic blue rocks do not exist. Looking for the quick fix will not provide any sustainable real estate sales success.
