Variety Is The Spice Of Life

By

I had to ask the artist what those last three items are. I knew the first is a carrot, the second a grape, the third celery. Timmothy had to clue me in that the fourth an apple slice, the fifth is spinach, and the final one is a strawberry (I thought the fifth was a walking little cheese burger).

Variety is great, especially in food, but there certainly things that fall under the heading of variety that scare or even disgust me but I'm not going there here.

If you are building a new home by your owns spec's

Your head may be spinning at the variety of building materials available to you. Wood or metal studs, double or triple pane windows, carpet, siding, drawer pulls, and on and on.

If you are building your "forever home" go with what you want. If you are building a home for a season in your life and you know a time will come to sell it then avoid trends and go with things more standard for easier resale later.

Variety can be the spice of life or it can be a poison that will punish you later. Choose wisely.

I'll credit King Solomon with the thought Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 although he may not have said it exactly that way.

Will Hamm now that I am retired and living a more moderate income I need to weigh if it's something I want or something I need. I love tools so I always ponder "will this tool save me money or cost me money".

I have clients building a home, and I said to them enjoy your experience at the design center, don't go crazy, just enjoy yourselves, this is the fun part.

When we rebuilt after the flood that forced us to gut our house to the sticks we knew exactly what we wanted and we trusted our builder completely as well (he had been a close friend for years) and it came out great. I think if we went to a design center we may have spent a lot more money that we did not have 😉.

Hi Bob... of course the problem is for those people who truly believe they are building their forever home... and then that's not quite what transpires! :)

I think that is a large percentage of the custom homes built Nina Hollander, Broker . I'm not sure if I will ever move but if we do it will be to Milwaukee and it won't be a custom home. I'll be 900 miles closer to NC which is a bonus. 😊

Hi Bob- it's nice to tailor your home to what you enjoy however you have to remember at some point, you'll sell it. And if not you, your heirs will. Someone called me for a consultation on a luxury condo. The owner had removed part of the wall dividing the primary bedroom from the master bath. there was a hot tub between the bathroom and master. Not something easily overlooked!!!

That is/was an interesting set up Kathy Streib . I "get" the hot tub between the bedroom and bath as I have never wanted a bath directly off of the bedroom. Nothing ruins "the mood" whose then when your mode when your spouse is exploding and detonating nerve gas bombs just a thin wall with a door away. 😜

Bob what a great message, and I remember when we did our bathroom remodel how many choices of tiles there were in the store, hard to fathom close to a thousand and then we narrowed it down to one tile but there were fifteen versions of that one... Endre

That does sound nerve wracking to me Endre Barath, Jr. We went with a ceramic tile and there were few choices of color in stock so that made it pretty easy.

When my house was being built and they asked me what color I wanted for this or what tile or flooring I wanted, I wished there were fewer choices!
