Friday Fun…What’s In Your Stack

It’s National Book Lovers Day!!!   I still love reading books but I always have several books on the Kindle app on my phone.

I know there are many book lovers in the Rain… Roy Kelley,  Endre Barath, Jr. and Michael Jacobs

There’s something special for me when I begin a new book. I feel as if I’m stepping into a world where it’s just the book and the storyline and me.

I could fill a page or post about the benefits of reading but that’s for another post.

I have Douglas Preston’s Extinction on my Kindle app and I’ve been reading a book recommended by Patricia Kennedy - Anticancer Living by Lorenzo Cohen and Allison Jefferies.

It’s FUN FRIDAY, so share with us what’s in your stack of books either in real life or on your app?

Good morning, Kathy... too many books in my stack to list... I have two full shelves in my closet of books waiting to be read. A new Elin Hilderbrand book is on my nightstand right now, but I've yet to start it. I just finished the newest book by Jennifer Weiner. These days I read mostly fiction... it's relaxing and a way to "escape."

Good morning Kathy. Before I retired never had much time for reading. When I retired I was lured into trying fiction by Roy Kelley. Found a couple of authors I liked and read a couple hundred of their works. Then my interest shifted to history and factual books. It slowed my pace but not my desire. Currently working through a book on profits and politics in paradise about the development of Hilton Head Island.

The stack of want to read books is a read in itself. Enjoy your day.

Hello Kathy - thank you for the mention.  I remain grateful for our public library system as well as bookstores which are sadly declining in number.  Fortunately, Pasadena has a longtime favorite Vroman's which has been around since 1894.

I am sure each member could cite a treasured local landmark.  Even if not book related.

My mother may be the world record holder on reading books. She has read 3-5 books per week...every week since she was 5 years old...she is now 93. Once she finishes reading a book, she piles them up, brings them to a budget bookstore near her home, and trades them in for more books.

Great post Kathy.  Reading is great.  On my iPad I have too many to mention right now, but do enjoy the time I get when I get to read

Hmm, I was offended when I saw that I was not included in the list of book lovers, but then I realized, I don't even enjoy reading books, so I am good now, haha.

I know this will shock everyone...I rarely read a book anymore.  I see some of the comments and wonder how they do it?

I use to read a lot  of books but now concentrate on short articles and no...not just on social media.

My wife still reads a lot but I am more likely to read a magazine than a book.

To each his own I guess... Have a great weekend to all!

I always have several books on my Kindle as Prime offers me books to read each month, most I get free, but some I buy. Currently I have lined up a book about EQ as part of a course and I am reading a book written by a gentleman we met at the airport on our way home called A Message for Nasty, it is a true story about his grandfather and mother during WW2, how they got separated during the invasion of Hong Kong, how they survived and how they found each other. It is very good.

Ordinarily I wouldn't have much to add here. I've not been a reader most of my life.

Just a few weeks ago I picked up a book at a "free book exchange" at a campground we were staying at. I really enjoyed it and went back for another. I'm half way through the second book now and I'm really enjoying that one too!

In my younger days, I was an avid reader.  For one reason or another, I find it more difficult to buckle down with a book these days.  I think it may have to do with the fact that I enjoy watching videos that are completed in a couple hours, where a book takes much longer.  I will read an occasional book, however.  The last one I read was, "Peril" by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa.

I have two "go to" authors.  John Sandford with Lucas Davenport series and Childs with Jack Reacher.  Between those I spread the genre.  Long ago I put them to Kindle.  It was tough because I enjoyed the feel of the hard back in my hand.  But when I go back thru my Kindle Library I am so pleased I have all those books sitting neatly in a single tablet rather the hardbacks collecting dust.  And I would be remiss if I did not mention Stephen King and Dean Koontz as part of my go to's.  m
