Friday Flags A Waterbury Golf Course Steeped in Tradition
As I prefer to play my golf the traditional way by walking, I have found a most enjoyable location at the municipal golf course in Waterbury CT where I learned the game 64 years ago. Learning is a teaser word, as no one ever really learns the game as we continually practice it.
The golf course was opened in 1932 and has gone through some changes from the original layout, but the clubhouse hasn't and is currently in the last stages of a $2,000,000 remodel and scheduled to open Labor Day weekend.
A big difference with the renovations is that the new restaurant that will be opening will be a year-round restaurant. As the clubhouse has been closed for a while, it will be most welcome.
One thing that has not changed, is the flag that flies, weather permitting daily, and on the day, I took these shots it knew it had to be in good form for me.
The East Mountain golf course is located in the East Mountain section of Waterbury. It is primarily an area of stand-alone single-family homes in the 06706-zip code of Waterbury.
