53 word story challenge - Buying a home!

Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP wrote last week about a course she had taken where the lecturer introduced them to the 53 word story. In the comments I mentioned I would have to attempt that, thinking to my self that it did not sound that hard. Well I think the last laugh is with Patricia. It reminded me of when Twitter first launched and you were limited to the number of characters.

The 53 words do not include the title.

Buying a home!

Buying a home is an emotional experience. It requires stamina, grit and determination.

I not only represent you I educate you to make better decisions. You have to decide not only price but all the other terms of your offer and craft it well enough to satisfy the seller so they accept it.

I am not sure if I understood the challenge correctly, but it did require a lot of editing to keep it to 53 words. I tend to write from a stream of consciousness, and that can get pretty wordy in my case. But, I think editing it, which I generally do not do, made me tighten up what I was writing, removing words I felt were superfluous and not required to convey the meaning.

I actually felt happy about the result and would use that in conversation with a buyer.

What do you think? Will you give the 53 word story a try? maybe next time I will actually try a story.

That is not a lot of words, but I like things that are short and sweet, so this is right up my alley, haha.

Good morning Nick. Well done! It will certainly open a buyer's eyes to the process and your role in the process. Enjoy your day.

Very well done, Nick... but no, I'm not playing with 53 word stories. When I take time away from my business it's for things I would enjoy doing a whole lot more... like reading a good book, trying out a new recipe, taking my dog to the dog park.

I am seldom a person to get very wordy, but 53 words would be a challenge even for me.

Hello Nick - after reading the post by Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP and your excellent follow-up to it, I am thinking this could be a good AR monthly Challenge.

Kathy Streib and Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - when will I learn to keep my mouth shut?  While I do think a 53-word-challenge has possibilities, I don't want to be a co-host.

This reminds me of my school days when essays had to be a certain number of words. We estimated the number of words on a page, adding spaces and writing LARGE to try and fill the page. Like you, I tend to get wordy; not sure I can tell a tale in 53 words or less.

Pat Starnes-Front Gate Realty - its a great exercise! Yes! I was reminded of old school day essays too!

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 it is harder than you think, needs lots of editing and thinking about how to say what you want in less words.

Michael Jacobs you never know.

Pat Starnes-Front Gate Realty I wasn't sure either, but was happy with how it turned out. Now onto more fictional stories.

Many of us need to reduce the length of our stories. The long stories tend to lose readers.

Roy Kelley - you are right! That was why I signed up for the class! There must have been at minium 50 students and from the ones that wanted to read, I was surprised how different each one was. Some were funny. Others serious. A few were very inspiring!

You are very observant!

Roy Kelley it all depends on the story I guess. But, we do seem to have shorter attention spans than years ago.

Hi Nick- I need to read Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP's post. You did an excellent job!!!  I write as you do and tend to get not just wordy but sentences that are as long as the London Bridge!!!!

Hi Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - You did a great job! And you had fun. I didn't think I could do it with just the right 53 words either, but I did and you did too! Thank you for taking the challenge I offered. I also thought it would be a fun and interesting AR Challenge to see what others come up with too.

Kathy Streib it piqued my interest to give it a try, it is a good post, I should have linked to it.

Debe Maxwell, CRS that would be fun, definitely Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP should be included too as it was her original post that inspired me. It is harder than you think.

Patricia thank you, it took a lot of editing. Initially I was trying to write just to the 53 words, then gave up, wrote what I wanted to say, then began editing it and making changes till I had my 53 words.

Endre Barath, Jr. it is a fun challenge, I hope you will take part when we make it a challenge.
