Are You Getting the Job Done…Really Done?

Do you have a checklist you follow in your work? I’d imagine that agents, inspectors and lenders have a lengthy checklist...contracts signed, inspection ordered, Open House scheduled, etc.  And by following your checklist, you make sure that you get the job done.

a checklist

But is the job really done???

All businesses, large or small, have procedures they follow.  It may be as simple as making sure that the door is unlocked and all signs are on by a certain time to making sure that all steps are taken when entering a home on the MLS.

There are steps to track documents and steps to ensure that lenders and inspectors are kept in the loop.

However, in your procedures or checklist, have you included the extras that will…

-Make the client’s experience a positive one

-Make them want to return

-Make them want to recommend you and your company to others,

Getting the job done  is more than a business transaction.

There’s a person behind that dollar bill, check, or credit card.

So, just a reminder when you’re making your checklist for getting the job done, don’t forget to add in a step for recognizing and acknowledging your client.

Good morning, Kathy... at this stage my checklists are ingrained in my brain... I'm seriously in auto-pilot. I never forget to acknowledge my clients, my fellow agents, my attorney, etc. after the transaction.

My first broker/mentor made us use a checklist for a transaction and was insistent that it be followed completely. It did help to learn the process the correct way.

Nice AI photo at the end as well.

Good morning Kathy,

Great thought to remind people. The checklist should always include acknowledging and thanking the client, fellow colleagues etc.!

Hi Dorie Dillard Austin TX I was reminded of this when we got take-out food. The cashier never said a word, didn't smile or anything. Just took my card and handed me my food.

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty I agree. It's the only way to know that what needs to be done will be done.

I'm sure they'll change their profession if they don't change their habits of not using a checklist.

Hello Kathy - an excellent question.  When one considers a mission accomplished, what does that really mean.  Context certainly plays a part but, I believe, a consideration of the topic will likely include many different components.  It's a worthy conversation.  And, yes, it's ongoing.  Or should I say continuous?  Happy Tuesday.

I will add, I believe mission accomplished is Finite event, and we have to repeat that finite event an unknown number of times (depending on the situation) in this infinite event we call life.

I had checklists when I was actively selling real estate.  But, you are absolutely right, it's important to keep the client experience in mind!  Most of my clients were from past client referrals, so hopefully I was doing something right!

Kathy Streib - I make it a habit to use a checklist. Even if I know my job, I still make a list and I don't see myself skipping it either. It helps when I have to get everything put together for my Broker before closing too.

Great post!
