Putting Up the Peaches

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Beam & Branch Realty TREC #547752

I did a thing over the weekend and finally took some time to do some old-fashioned peach jam-making. I had ordered these fabulous peaches from The Georgia Peach Truck. It was my first time to place an order with them and I was super pleased with the quality. Juicy and sweet!

I gathered my ingredients and began the process from fruit to jam. It's a bit of work but man oh man, it is worth getting messy. At the end of the process and seeing all of the jars filled with the golden yumminess, you can't help but smile.

As I was slicing, cooking, and cleaning, I couldn't help but think how putting up these peaches had a lot of similarities to what I do in real estate. You might be saying, "Now Paula, how are you going to find an analogy to real estate with this topic?" Well, hang in there.

๐Ÿ‘ PREPARATION - If you desire to have the best-tasting jam, you better begin with the best-tasting fruit. Fruit takes time to grow and harvest. Any good real estate agent must begin every day with good preparation. And, like fruit, preparing for growth takes time. You will need constant preparation as you do your marketing, listings, buyer tours, and so much more.

๐Ÿ‘ TOOLS - As I was making the jam, it was crucial to have all of my tools ready to go. In my real estate business, I have tools that I use daily. Transaction programs, MLS tools, marketing, electronic key boxes, a clean car, documents, business cards, and so many more items keep me on my game.

๐Ÿ‘ย  REWARD - At the end of the canning process, the reward are those beautiful jars of goodness. After a day in the life of a real estate agent, the reward happens when we are able to keep a deal moving, enjoyed a successful closing, secured that contract, and have happy clients. Now, that is sweet!

I hope you get to enjoy some of the delicious homemade, canned goods after the summer harvest. May your real estate business be filled with the sweet goodness of success. Have a peachy end of the summer!

Good morning, Paula... like Kathy Streib I've never canned a single thing in my life! And I don't expect to be doing any in what's left of my life! Nonetheless, I totally enjoyed reading your post.

Among the summer fruits, peaches are my favorite.ย  I am not a fan of the fuzzy skin - no washing or scrubbing will cure that so I just do not eat it.ย ย

Rarely do I eat jam, but when I do, my choice is peach if I can find it in the stores - which is rare.ย  Second to that is apricot which I can find in the stores.

You have been one buzzing busy woman Dr. Paula McDonaldย

Hi Paula,

My sister and I always canned with my mother. We made applesauce and canned applesauce, blue berries, pears, peaches etc. Loved your photos and your advice!
