Connecticut Tax Free Week Starts Sunday August 18, 2024
Starting this Sunday, shoppers will not be charged the usual 6.35 % sales tax for any clothing or footwear purchases. Tax-free week will run through Saturday, Aug. 24, during which time most clothing items priced under $100 will be exempt from the Connecticut sales and use tax.
The Connecticut General Assembly enacted the sales tax week in 2004.
The following items do not qualify for tax free status:
Jewelry, handbags, luggage, umbrellas, wallets, watches, “and similar items carried on or about the human body, but not worn on the body in the manner characteristic of clothing.”
As of yet, some items that should be considered are in the electronics area such as calculators which are required in higher education schools. Sports apparel such as special shoes are also not covered.
Also not eligible are any special clothing or footwear primarily designed for athletic activity or protective use that is not normally worn except when used for the athletic activity or protective use for which it was designed.

Stationary items are as yet still taxed”
State officials say tax-free week applies to purchases made from retailers located in Connecticut, as well as from online retailers.
Getting a tax-free purchase from online shopping is great as so many purchase that way.
