Winter Park Base Village

Since Intrawest has been the catalyst for an amazing amount of growth in Grand County already, I thought it might be of interest to see the progress that has already been made on the new base village, due to complete by this December.  I think it is safe to say that no other development has had such a resounding impact on Winter Park Real Estate as Intrawest's management and development of the Winter Park ski Resort.

It looks like they've been making the best of the warm weather and have already gone vertical on one half of the village (thankfully covering up the new parking garage).  With this new village I am sure that the "light will go on" for more than just a few vacationers and skiers.  The new village definitely helps to create the "mountain village" ambience that vacationers are looking for.  Though the mountain has always been par excellence with any other ski area in Colorado, especially with its brand new ski lifts and runs, it will now have the base village to capture the imaginations of visitors as soon as they enter the resort. (The pictures were taken in June 2008)

As you can see, the water tower and lofts are already almost completely enclosed.

Winter Park Base - Far

This is due to be the new entrance for the whole resort, with an open air cabriolet (like a roofless gondola) shuttling people back and forth between the village and the parking lot.  The impact that the completion of the village will have on Winter Park real estate is exciting to say the least.  Winter Park is certainly coming into its own as a resort, and with its easy access to Denver and its early exit from I-70 (read: traffic) it looks like this winter could be a big turning point for the whole of Grand County.

Below are the newly completed Fraser Crossing and Founder's Point condominiums, just across the street from the new base village.  Between the two buildings there are approximately 200 new units.
