More or Less?

This is an interesting article published by Axios. Will the new brokerage commission rules force agents out of the business? Will it be a good thing to weed out the inexperienced part-timers?

Here's the article...

AXIOS ARTICLE

Mediocre real estate agents are out

Let it be known. I have met some very incompetent "full-time" Real Estate agents and some very competent Real Estate agents that do not work "full-time" for various reasons. I do believe there could be a, let's say, downsizing. When the markets appear "easy" it attracts newcomers to the industry and when times are perceived as tougher or tightening there is an attrition.

Whatever all that means, I look at it as markets go up and markets go down. The same is true of the number of Real Estate agents.

What are your thoughts on the AXIOS article?

Hello Doug - I have long heard, that real estate agents don't retire, they simply expire.  With that thought in mind, it appears looking at the shelf life of the profession may require some additional adjustment.

Hi Doug... I wonder how Axios came up with that full-time number. I suspect it's a bit low. As for commissions dropping, I've seen other analyses that show otherwise and so far I haven't seen much of a trend to dropping.

Good morning Doug,

I read that article from Axios and do believe there will be some agents who just don't want to learn how to navigate the new normal. I see knowledgeable and respected agents more in demand and not sure I see the lowering of compensations. Time will tell!

Doug, there will always be slackers in any career, and they either will need to step up, or get out of our way!

Thanks for reading the post Michael Jacobs

I see this is the long term plan to make real estate agents employees. I don't think in the rest of my lifetime but as a strategy

Good Morning Nina Hollander, Broker

I have no idea where AXIOS got their data. There is a long term industry strategy for certain and I don't see commissions going down. We'll see how it all plays out

Thanks Bill Salvatore - East Valley

Yup, entertaining it will be as we watch all the talking heads bandy things about, Meanwhile professional agents will adjust and move forward.

Doug Dawes hi Doug... it seems that if you read five articles on this you'll get five different opinions. In my own data base, I can tell buyers think it's nuts what they have to go through to find a home now.

Hi Doug- who knows what will happen!   I remember back in 2008, I met agents leaving the market and surprisingly, I met people entering the field in a down market!

Good Morning Kathy Streib

Agents came and agents go. Some are good and some are not and markets go up and markets go down. There is an equilibrium to consider.

As with all big changes in real estate, I always hope that it will weed out a lot of the agents that don't do a good job, but it never seems to do that, haha.

Good Morning Brian England

I think we are to be self policing, but let that go. Attrition happens naturally and I agree that it doesn't do a good weeding...lol
