In 1857 the St James General Store was built and by the 1890's it was expanded to it's present day size.  The St James General Store is the oldest continuously operating general store in the Country. The gift shop operated by the Friends for Long Island's Heritage, and it is open year round.  Many programs are run throughout the year including period craft demonstrations. The St James General Store is a National landmark, and has been in continuous operation since 1857.It  Offers 19th century type of merchandise, candies, preserves, handcrafts.
