We bought our house and moved in just about two years ago this month. I would not say that the house is built with the best skills. This month our electric stove which has two front burners that are dual had a small problem, the right hand burner was burning hot regardless of whatever temperature it was set to.
I am not the handiest person, but thought how hard can this be to fix? So I turned to YouTube. Using YouTube is a little like using AI, getting the prompt right to get what you need. There are a lot of different manufacturers of stoves out there, so entering the correct manufacturer was important.
Once I had that, as I began typing, what I like about YouTube you can see that other people had the same issue as the prompt almost writes itself. Then adding the manufacturer led me to the correct video or videos.
Having watched a couple, and seeing where the model number was, I then went to the GE website to find the part, it turns out the switch was most likely defective, and it was a relatively easy fix if it was a more modern switch, which luckily for me it was.
All I had to do was pull the stove out, undo eight screws on the back of the stove to access the control panel, the pull off the control on the switch undo another couple of small screws and it was loose. Then take a photo to make sure everything will look the same when I finish. In hindsight, I should have taken a photo before loosening the screws for the switch as well to make sure I put it the right way in.
The whole thing was easy, all the wires were in harnesses which I just had to get off the old switch and put on the new switch and then put everything back the way it was and Voila, it worked, we now have a working dual hot plate giving us low and high heat on both small and full burner capacity.
Thank you YouTube and the gentlemen who added the videos with clear and precise instructions. Makes you think, maybe people might look for real estate videos as well. What do you think might be some good subjects to add to YouTube about the home buying or selling process?
