Down the Rabbit Hole: The Hidden Costs of Renovating an Older Home

By

The recent exercise for our Zoom “AI” session asked us to create something about going down the rabbit hole. My first thought was that Movie “The Money Pit,’ the 1986 American comedy starring Tom Hanks and Shelley Long.

I decided to cut to the chase and took the advice of Dario Ferreira and went to Chat Gpt to create a more detailed prompt. This was the prompt created:

“A visual metaphor depicting the idea of pouring money into an older home being like pouring money down a rabbit hole. The scene shows an old, slightly dilapidated house with cracked walls and a sagging roof, situated in a gloomy, overgrown garden. A large, open rabbit hole is prominently featured in front of the house, and a person is seen pouring a stream of coins and dollar bills into it. The money disappears into the hole, emphasizing the sense of waste. The atmosphere is somewhat dark, with shadows accentuating the theme of hidden costs and endless expenses associated with the aging property.”

This is what AI Created…

Night Cafe:

Google's Gemini:

Microsoft Bing:

I have to say, Microsoft Bing's creation is my favorite, what is yours? Exploring AI feels like discovering a whole new playground—such a fun distraction as we navigate the changes happening all around us!

Hi Dorie- what a clever idea to use the money pit idea for going down the rabbit hole!!!  Love it and while I like all three of them, I too like the Bing creation.

Hi Dorie... these almost look like you're getting ready for Halloween! I'd say the Bing picture was also my favorite.

The Bing one looks the best, although the man looks a bit weird.

Thanks for the mention.

I like to compare models, so I ran your prompt in FLUX Dev, and got this:

I'm really liking these Flux models - haven't used anything else since it came out.

Thank you, Dorie, for your creative take on the hidden costs of renovating older homes! I love how you used the metaphor of a rabbit hole to illustrate the financial challenges, and your exploration of AI-generated visuals adds a fascinating layer to the discussion—it's definitely an exciting time to delve into new technologies!

I once worked with an agent who also loved buying fixer homes.  More than once, he put more into renovation than he retrieved from resale.  I love that ole movie, "Money Pit," by the way.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX   A Money Pit can be one use but not one I would pick. I did ask Bing for a rabbit whole and got something entirely different.

I like the Bing version best. I still find it so interesting how different the output can be, even with the same exact prompt. Cool!
