Although, I have visited New Mexico a few times, my initial impression of Albuquerque was your airport.  It seems pretty manageable and that's a good thing in my opinion.  I have friends/clients who moved to the area a few years and met them in Old Town for lunch a few years ago.  People were friendly and the atmosphere quaint and welcoming.  And the sky was so clear and blue.
