As Another Month Is About to End . . .
Labor Day is almost here. By the time Monday, September 2 arrives the countdown of days until the arrival of Autumn and beyond will likely be in full force. After all, I have seen signs of Halloween haunting the halls in my midst for a while.
Can turkey talk be too far behind? And, of course, 24/7 Christmas tunes might be making a memorable impression in your minds with this mere mention of their anticipated entrance.
But first, I have been keeping busy going to/fro beyond my home base this summer. Not too far, mind you. Just enough to see and do some different things as well as quite a few familiar ones.
I have finished some books. Admittedly, set a few aside to perhaps pick up later. Or not. And yes, I have seen some movies too. Enjoyed some good ones along with others that I wasn't so enthusiastic. I will likely see a few more in the weeks to come.
Of particular note is a somewhat smaller budget film that you may discover on one of the streaming services now. Sorry, I don’t subscribe to any, but you likely know how to find if it’s of interest to you.
The movie is Thelma. And it’s a special story. Unique but quite relatable.
Wittily written in my opinion with superb performances by each of the cast especially June Squibb, in the title role. I was also impressed with Richard Roundtree, you know - Shaft from the 1970s, as her friend in his final performance in a film. Sadly, he died October 24, 2023.
If you get an opportunity, I wholeheartedly recommend it. And I rarely, if ever, endorse such things but I think it's more than worthy of your consideration. Best of all, in my opinion, it runs 98 minutes — movies have become much too long.
Enough already. It's time to move on. . .
