Not Quite Smoke Free

Smoke likes to settle in the plains. Unfortunately the Great Plains draws forest fire smoke from Canada as well as those forest fires in Western States.

The picture above was a Montana fire in 2022. It was a bad year for smoke in our area (smoke goes up and the jet stream deposits it here in the plains). The number of fires in the United States is surprising. Here are some states from National Interagency Fire Center.

While California has the most acres on fire today Idaho and Montana have the most fires currently burning today. Seeing this makes we pray for Kat Palmiotti 's safety as she lives in the woods. For that matter we should pray for the safety of the fire fighters out there as well as the home owners who live in wooded areas.

Do you enjoy the cartoons written by my son (Timmothy N. Timm) which I use as a springboard to write my daily posts? His strip, Titus & Philemon, has run in two newspapers for years as well as being printed in my blog every day. Titus & Philemon (pronounced Phi - Lee -Man) are guinea pigs. Their owner is Joe. Timmothy has never repeated a joke/comic strip in the 12 years he has been writing it. He has never copied another strip, such as Peanuts or Garfield. You can follow Timmothy on FB as Titus & Philemon and you can also check him out on Instagram as Instagram.com/titus and philemon/ .For Timmothy's website type timmtimmothy.com into your browser. I tried to put it in a link here but it refuses to work. Do NOT put anything in front of timmtimmothy.com or it will not work.

Good morning and thank you for the kind thoughts! This year has been better (so far) in terms of smoke and fires. Two years ago, a fire started about two miles from my house, and it was in the woods. Helicopters were flying over the house all day with water drops. Luckily that was put out successfully and quickly.  We have a bag packed and lists of things to remember to do/bring in the event we had to evacuate. We hope that never happens but this is fire country.

Good morning Bob. While living in the Midwest our thoughts are not on wildfires and safety, reading Kat Palmiotti's comment shows how those who live in fire prone areas must be constantly vigilant and prepared. May the fires soon subside and all the firefighters remain safe. Enjoy your day.

Hello Bob and Kat is smart to have a bag pack and list just in case their is a fire close to her.

We've had some recent air quality alerts in Maryland related to fires in far away states.

Hi Bob... I don't remember that many forest fires many years ago... then again, maybe we just didn't know about them. They are truly quite frightening.

I know that I wouldn't enjoy seeing our clear blue skies filled with layers of smoke, haha.
