The September challenge "Blog 53 Words Challenge" is being hosted by Nick Vandekar and Patricia Feager. The assignment is to write a 53 Word Story about any topic of interest. With the topic of the challenge being a wide open book, I looked out the window, picked my subject and came up with the below story.
She embraced me, held me close and said, “welcome home.”
Her countenance often changed by the minute
Sometimes stormy and other times calm or beautiful
She required a lot of work in terms of upkeep
But I was always rewarded for my energy
I continued to love her anyway
Who is she?
"Montana"
That was my 53 word story. But we're not done yet! The challenge also asks us to share in at least 300 words, what we did, whether it was easy or hard and to share our tips and advice. I'm thinking 300 words might result in some fluff so I will answer the main question and that is, I found this to be a relatively easy challenge because the idea of what to write about just popped into my head. The way the challenge actually works (on the official website shared in the contest post) is you are given a topic and then have to write about that. That would be more difficult.
So why did I pick the topic of Montana? Well, because the first time we drove into Montana we felt an affinity for everything - the people, the food, the scenery, the lack of humidity, the trails, the outdoor activities. We truly did feel as though she had welcomed us home. And when we got here we couldn't wait to get our Montana license plates and Montana phone numbers.
But I also mention storminess - that's because the weather here can change from moment to moment. We could have all four seasons in one day! Some snow, some rain, cold temperatures in the morning and hot in the afternoon. My car has everything in it I might need including rubber boots, socks, a jacket, gloves, summer shoes. I have to say I even love that - Montana is wild and unpredictable!
One other thought - I purposely did not add a title, even though a title wouldn't count towards the 53 words. I didn't want to give away who I was talking about! (or what).
And there you have it! An entry into a challenge on the second day of the month. I think that's a record for me..
