Chalk it Up Sacramento 2024

By
Real Estate Agent

Each year on Labor Day weekend, Sacramento is fortunate enough to have the Chalk it Up Festival.  The 3 day event is located at Fremont Park.  Located between 15th and 16th Streets, and P and Q Streets.  Earlier today, I spent time walking along the sidewalks that border the park to take in the delightful art provided.

There are also crafts stands, food trucks and music in the center of the park. Admission is FREE.  Street parking is difficult to come by.  Parking at the public parking lot a block away is $15.00 for the event.

Hi Myrl- how lucky were you!!!!  I love chalk art!  What's fun is if you get there early, you can see the artists "creating!"   Bet you had fun with your camera.

It seems the chalk art gets better at the festival with each passing year.  This was the 34th year for the event.

That is an awesome event and chalk makes the most sense for art that you don't want to be permanent, haha.

Endre Barath, Jr. - I liked those butterflies too.  They seemed to glow a bit.  And, I like the impermanence of chalk art!  It reminds me of the temporary sand mandalas Buddhist monks sometimes create.

Michael Jacobs - The creativity seems to improve with each year the festival is held.  This was their 34th year.

Roy Kelley - Thank you!  This event is held close enough to the Capitol that I suspect there are out-of-towners too.

Brian England - I read a little sign that mentioned something about it lasting to the first rain.  Somehow, with our 100+ degree days slated for this week, I suspect it may be a while.

Hi Myrl:

I love seeing chalk art especially as it's being created. Such talented artists, and some brilliant colors. I bet this festival was well attended by viewers as well as chalk artists.

Jeff

Myrl, Sounds like a wonderful way to enjoy the Labor Day Weekend.  True labors of love made by those artists.  Also like the Native American sand paintings, as well as the mandalas you mentioned.

Myrl Jeffcoat - Aren't those chalk drawings lovely! There are many creative people in this world that brings sunshine into our lives because of their talent. I could never say, one artist out did the other. I can only image how much joy you felt walking on the sidewalks, seeing the movement of the chalk on concrete, and the brilliant colors making all of our favorite things!

Thank you for sharing, Myrl! I enjoyed seeing your pictures!

Great post and the art is Beautiful! This caught my eye because I used to go to Old Sacramento quite often when I lived in San Mateo. We used to walk along the waterfront, we have been to this park and I would take my son to the CA State Train Museum and down south to Fairytale Town. Wow! Memories. We have this chalk art demonstrationaration in Little Italy every year here in San Diego.
