Don’t Bring Your Furniture!

By
Real Estate Agent with TOUCHSTONE REAL ESTATE SL3537832

My advice to those moving to The Villages, Florida sell your furniture otherwise your big cherry hutch and heavy wood furniture could end up at one of the local used furniture or consignments shops.  Recently I went to visit my estate sale buddy about an upcoming sale he is doing for one of my clients.  In the dining room was a beautiful solid wood large table with 8 chairs, hutch, and credenza.  It filled the formal dining room; it was the last day of the sale, so everything was 50% off.  I noticed the price $1,000 which would be $500 on the last day, I commented to him, and he said look at this, the original bill of sale from 2013, $4,000, he finally sold it for $400.  Wonder how much it cost to move it here from up north?

Think about your new Florida home, bright, airy, open concept, maybe white cabinets either LVP flooring or tile, stone countertops, plenty of natural light and you don’t want to darken the room with dark furniture (maybe).  To each their own as far as decorating, furniture, style, and colors but why pay thousands of dollars to move furniture here which you can find at used furniture and consignments shops pennies on the dollar.  We help investors stage homes and Facebook Marketplace, and thrift shops is a great option for almost everything you need.

As far as Facebook Marketplace NEVER give them money to hold something, too many scams.  I had one of my vacant listings used as a front for selling a car, no car just people losing their money!

Years back when my parents bought their vacation condo in Clearwater, they went furniture shopping. What they saw as new was very light weight and not at all like the upholstered furniture they had back home. When they sked why, they were told that when the homes are shut down for the summer the heavy furniture would accrue a smell because of the heat and that the lighter furniture would cause less issues.

Hello Dick - with the cost of moving plus time and other sources of frustration involved with the process, you make a valid point.  Of course, timeless treasures may be another story.  And there lies, more details that seem to be unraveling all the time. . .

Good morning Dick. As one who moved my northern furniture to Florida and around Florida over the years, the furniture remained at my last Florida home when I returned to Chicago. The cost of moving that stuff many times exceeded the original cost. Enjoy your day. For your buyers follow Dick's advice.
