This Week…Short And a Hint of Fall

Short weeks have always messed me up. Is it Thursday or Friday?  Larry and I almost forgot to take the garbage out Tuesday night because we thought it was Monday!

I don’t believe in the kind of magic in my books. But I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book.
J.K. Rowling

We have had a hint of Fall this week because we are waking up to temperatures in the mid- 70s.

A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies . . . The man who never reads lives only one.
  George R.R. Martin

Yesterday was National Read a Book Day. I have 3 books going now and I vowed to finish one before I begin another one.

Please, no matter how we advance technologically, please don’t abandon the book. There is nothing in our material world more beautiful than the book.
Patti Smith

With the holidays around the corner (at least that’s what our retailers are telling us) consider gifting a book, especially if it is to a child.

If you’re not sure what author to follow, all you need to do is follow our own Roy Kelley .

… a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge.

 George R.R. Martin

Even with our short week…consider some time spent with a good book!!!

Books are a uniquely portable magic.

Stephen King

Enjoy your weekend!

Good morning! I am a one-at-a-time reader, but I do read somewhere around a book a week so do get a lot of book time in.

It's been beautiful here in terms of weather, but some plants are starting to turn colors so Autumn is definitely on the way!

Kat Palmiotti   I looked and we are headed for a high of 91 degrees but we have a breeze and it's so much better than the 100 degree weather we had.

Hi Kathy,
I always have at least one book going and usually more, a combination of fiction and nonfiction. My fiction reading is usually a cozy mystery of some kind. Right now, the nonfiction is Force of Nature by Joan Griffin (not to be confused with Force of Nature by Jane Harper). It is about three women in their fifties who set out to hike the John Muir Trail and all the trials and tribulations of that adventure.

Hi Carol Williams I like mysteries and legal thrillers. I also have a book called Brevity I'm reading.

Hi Kathy... I love books. I love holding them. I love reading them. It's one reason I don't read on any electronic device. I want the real thing.

Hi Kathy,

Reading can help you personally, in business or transport you to another place and many times another time or world.  Reading is good for the mind and the soul

Sadly Jeffrey Richman I think people are moving away from reading. They prefer videos.

Hi Katy:

I always have a tough time with adjusting after a Monday holiday. Today our heatwave continues and it's 95 here in Carlsbad - a rarity for us but supposedly cooler tomorrow.

As far as reading I prefer fiction and almost always read for a while before going to sleep. The quotes were wonderful, particularly the one by Martin.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Jeff
