I love the Pride of Barbados Plant that is in abundance, growing in Austin. I love walking in the mornings because our community landscapers have planted a number of them. I was walking with a friend the other morning and she told me she takes the pods that are brown, removes them and places them in a brown bag until the spring and then removes the seeds in the pods and plants them!

I didn’t know to do this so now have secured some brown pods, putting them in a brown bag and can’t wait to plant them next spring! She said wait until they are brown and don’t remove the green ones! Good to know. Hoping to have my very own Pride of Barbados plant next year!

Dorie I am not positive, but I don't think we have "Pride of Barbados Plants" around here.  They are a pretty plant, and I would plant them in my yard if they can stand up to our cold winters.

I used to have one of these growing at my house, I never knew what it was called, but I thought I heard someone say it was bird of paradise, haha, I guess not.  I replaced it with Jasmine, anyways.

Hello Dorie - when it comes to flora and fauna as well as many sorts of fantastic things, I can easily become flustered in identifying them. Your post was interesting, but I will likely misplace the information learned in my that memory bank of mine - AKA my mind.  Happy Sunday.

Great idea, Dorie!  When I hike in the mountains, I see many, many beautiful wildflowers and often wonder if they could be planted in my yard.  Slightly different elevation and climate, however, but it is a good idea to try.

Hi Dorie:

Best of luck with growing the Pride of Barbados. I've never hear of it but I bet it grows here in California.

I have not seen those here, but what a great idea.  Funny thing about knowledge, most of it is informal that being learning from others.  Good luck with your spring planting.
