Motivational Monday…You Lost, Now What?

Do you remember the first listing presentation you lost? I’m guessing it stung.

However the fact that you’re still here shows you have the attitude of a winner in it for the long haul.

Sunday I watched the Texans play the Colts. I’d not heard of the Colts quarterback..Anthony Richardson. At 22 years young he seems to have the right attitude for playing in the NFL for many years.

In brief, when asked if he was “bummed out” that in the Colt’s loss to the Texans he was not on the field, his answer showed a healthy level of competitiveness and sportsmanship in acknowledging his competitor. It also showed he was not letting one loss stop him.

So often we hold onto our setbacks or losses as reasons we aren’t where we want to be. Some become more cautious when going forward…others may go in a different direction altogether.

Losses happen. That’s how we learn. It’s important to acknowledge those who won and to recognize what we can improve on.

You’re in this for the long haul. Pace yourself, learn from others, and appreciate the triumphs of others.  The important point is that you have control giving YOU the advantage.

Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow
is ours to win or lose.

Lyndon B. Johnson

Don't dwell on what went wrong. Instead,
focus on what to do next.

When I train new agents I use a baseball analogy, if you fail 70% of the time in your goal of getting a hit...you are successful 30% of the time. With that .300 average you might likely go to the hall of fame.

Hi Kathy,
Losses are lessons. They are an opportunity to look back and analyze what went wrong. Noone wins all the time, so we have to glean the lessons from them or they are wasted.

I agree Carol Williams the way to turn a loss into a win is to learn from it and move on.

Kathy love your post!  Growing up playing sports and being the captain of many teams taught me to always win or lose gracefully by acknowledging other players.  Build them up, cheer them on!!  The sport that teaches this very well is golf. I love that the young players, when the lose, lose gracefully and with dignity.  It's a powerful place to come from.
