Getting GRITTY in Real Estate

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Beam & Branch Realty TREC #547752

I've written about having GRIT before in this business. Yesterday, while cheering my. son in his first Cross Country meet, I was once again reminded of this term. I revisited the two posts I wrote on this topic, one from 2015, and one from 2023. Obviously, I like this term.

As I watched all of these hard-working kids push through extreme humidity and heat, the word, GRIT kept popping up in my head. I think for many, getting gritty in the business is not new. Some, however, may have lost their GRIT GRIP.

In the ever-changing world of real estate, it is more important than ever to have some GRIT. And those of you who follow me, know I love acronyms. So, bear with me as we explore getting GRITTY in real estate.

G - Get up, get going, get off your duff! Seriously, many issues simply are there because of a lack of having a GRITTY "get-up"  in your "get-along".

R - Rebound! If you learn to rebound quickly when things take a hard turn.  When you can pick yourself up and dust off those boots quickly, you will have a leg up on your competition. Falls can be hard but getting up takes GRIT.

I - Identify your weak areas and make a plan to improve. Without a plan in place, it is difficult to see positive changes. GRITTY people dig deeply to stay on top of their game.

T - Tackle the difficult tasks you may be avoiding. It's human nature to put aside the things we don't like or we want to avoid. Getting those GRITTY issues out of the way can clear your path to a more productive day!

My son running yesterday renewed my GRIT! I refuse to stay in the weeds of mediocrity. And, no matter what comes our way in this business, we shall move forward in confidence.

We've got this! We've got GRIT!

Kids sports do a wonderful job of teaching young people (and adults) GRIT.  When my kids were young, we were involved with swimming.

Whew, Myrl. Those swim meets for parents take GRIT for sure.

Hi Paula:

GRIT is spot-on as an acronym. It fits the real estate business so well, and perhaps life in general in so many ways. This is such good advice.

Good afternoon Paula,

GRIT is a great word, concept and kids sports give them a real taste of the meaning. Unfortunately we have far too many not learning this concept and are content to receive handouts for everything and the worse part are okay with letting the government pay it out to them.

Oh, Dorie! You so correct. We have to teach our younger generation the meaning of GRIT.

Hello Paula,  I like the word 'grit' as well when referring to a persons character.  I also like 'Savvy'   One of my favorite testimonials is a single short sentence stating stating I had/have 'savvy'.  As with grit it has many layers to it.  m

Hi Paula-I too love the word GRIT!  I reminds me of the old John Wayne movie True Grit. If you're going to succeed in anything, you have to have grit!  BTW I also love the acronym GRITS...Girls Raised In The South!

Hello Dr. Paula McDonald

Giddy Gritty Giddy Up!

This is a good daily reminder.

It is easy to allow disappointments to cause us to slip into the weeds of mediocrity.

Yes GRIT is required in life. Years ago I wrote about having Grit and as life changes so do acronyms change as well however the words may be different but the message is still the same.  G=Get it Done, R=Resiliency, I=Intuitiveness, T=Talent. Congratulations on the Feature.

As a REALTOR for over twenty years, I am well aware of the occasional need for EXTRA grit. In our business, as in life, stuff happens. We have to buck up and get gritty when that occurs.

G.R.I.T. needs to be taught in schools, Paula. More adults could use a bit more as well and being raised in the south, I do enjoy eating grits!
