Should CRS be called the PhD of Real Estate?

By
Real Estate Agent with Nashville, Tennessee Residential Specialist 298334

I was recently part of a conversation where there were varying opinions on CRS (Council of Residential Specialists) billing themselves as being the PhD of real estate.

Do you believe this description is misleading?

What do you think is the best phrase to articulate to the public about what CRS is that they can understand in consumer terms?

If you are on the positive side of this, how would you defend the statement against some who may criticize the statement?

I think we should be careful not to try and equate a CRS designation with a PH.D.  There is a world of difference and I say this as someone who was an ABD (all but disertation) for a Doctorate in Education and also a former college instructor.

For consumers we need to tell them that a CRS Designee has proven credentials in real estate that include not only our real estate license but specific advanced coursework and a verified level of real estate transactions.  The designation is only earned by 4% of Realtors around the world. They should feel confident that by selecting a CRS to handle one of the most important transactions they will make in their lifetime means they are in experienced hands.

Cindy, all very nice but a bit long winded for a quick explanation of Real Estate.

Brian,

I have often wondered how accurate that description is (not very)   but it does make a point concisely.

I have never seen it in official wording, or am I wrong?

Brian, I still owe you a call.  Have you had lunch with Jackie lately?

Have a great weekend.

I believe I have read that. Maybe in some CRS propaganda. The only way I could agree is that it is the top of the line in this business. Well, Broker is actually the top level and just about everyone understands that better than alphabet soup after my name.

CRS is a recognized value in an agent.  My clients may not know what the letters mean, but, I do.  I know that I am providing them with better service because I chose to educate myself about real estate.  Every time I finish a course, I am empowered to serve people better.  That is what I advise my clients about the letters after my name:)

It's a Good Life!

Brian, Long time no see.  Hope all is well.

I say if your clients don't know then tell them.

If each CRS did this to their farm, (say 500 families X 50,000) that would be 25 million knowing about CRS.

I've learned more from my CRS training than agents being trained by some of the larger RE companies out there.  I continue to take elective courses.

I too am a CRS.  To answer your question - No! CRB should be the PhD of real estate.

Brian, This is an interesting question. As a means of explaining it to clients, they would understand the PhD analogy. Perhaps just saying that it is the highest level of achievement in real estate would get the same message across.

Sure, why not.

We all know what BS means.

MS means "More of the Same"

PhD is "Piled Higher & Deeper"

We're PhDs ;->

I call CRS the highest designation earned and awarded in residential real estate.

Some times  or Many times A PHD is coined Educated beyond their intelligence.  So I would like to equate CRS as Well Experienced rather that over educated.
