We Hear the Term "AI Agents" What are They??

During our AI Zoom calls and in some blogs, we see the term "AI Agents (AIA)". Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish them from Virtual Assistants (VAs) and Digital Assistants (DAs).

The term began to take hold in May 2024 when Google unveiled Astra, an AI Agent. Users can interact with audio AND video!! It is no wonder there is some confusion because Open AI's GPT 4.o is considered to be a virtual assistant.

AI Agents in the purest and simplest form, are AI models and algorithms that can autonomously make decisions in a dynamic environment.  Soon, they will be able to execute a vast array of tasks - in a similar manner as a human (VA). Not only can they perform tasks, but they can remember preferences and prior inputs.

A DA is somewhat similar but far less complex. They are truly digital assistants. However, they do not function autonomously and they cannot perform nearly the same tasks as AIA. For example, a DA may be able to generate (predict) the next word in a sequence.  This is valuable but a far cry from AIA.

Uses for AIA are virtually unlimited but some examples will be customer service requests being fully automated (not the pesky BS we deal with now. I am waiting weeks for a few customer service requests to be answered)!!

The challenge with AIAs are the enormous amount of code that needs to be written - not to mention the time spent thinking through various scenarios.

If you want to be an early participant in AIAs, I suggest trying GPT 4.o

My first thought Paddy was "Always Icky" Agents lacking the ability to make the basic decisions. But I knew that you were talking about Artificial Intelligence. I heard someone say, "Should we get rid of NATURAL STUPIDITY" before we worry about ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE" They may be on to something. Jeff
