Ask An Ambassador: Block & Tackle

By
Real Estate Agent with Transaction Alliance 513.520.5305 www.LizTour.com SAL.2002007747

It's football season and often the teams who are best at the fundamentals, the ability to block and tackle, are the ones that finish with the win.

Real estate is full of fundamentals, and the agents that master the fundamentals have a much better chance of being successful.

And while blogging isn't a necessary fundamental for most agents, it CAN be a part of successful lead generation for agents.  And just like real estate in general, blogging has its own set of fundamentals.

Some things would seem to not be said, but we're going to say them anyway!

If you're going to blog, spelling and grammar matter.  Admittedly spelling and grammar rules are..shall we say...more relaxed than in years past, but for some potential clients, the ability to use the King's English properly is still a basic requirement to be considered.

Your posts need to be easily read.  White space, a decent sized font, some eye candy (pictures) all contribute to your posts being easily read.  Using 14 syllable words that overshoot your audience?  That could be an issue unless your target audience is MENSA members.

Know your audience and provide them the content they seek.  I'm a big proponent of providing unique, relevant real estate content that is pertinent to YOUR local market.   Do that and you'll find you are light years ahead of most of your competition.

Build up a sufficient library of content to be found.  Blogging isn't a one post and just wait for the phone to ring activity.  You've got to publish regularly (and regularly isn't one every month) until you've gained traction with search results.

Use specifics in your titles and posts.  You serve a market, name the cities/counties/subdivisions/etc. E.g. "Ranch home for sale" will lose to " "Ranch home for sale in Cincinnati's Best 55+ Community".

Make it easy to contact you.  Is your contact information easily findable?  And do you respond when people try to reach you?

Master these fundamentals of blogging basics, the block and tackle techniques, and your chance of scoring clients goes up.

Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador if you need help,

Hi Bill,
This is a good reminder. All of your points are spot on.  Many bloggers do not understand the fundamentals. I know I've clicked away from posts I intended to read just because they were hard for these old eyes to read due to the small font and being one long paragraph. Another difficulty is the lack of white space between pictures and the text.

I totally agree. Fundamentals are important for any kind of marketing we do! (Please note the use of the word "do" instead of "accomplish" or "implement" !) More understandable!

Lol!  The implementation matrix assessment completed on that word choice??!

Liz and Bill Spear - Bloggers need to remember that writing a blog post is also a form of  communication. White space, clear photo images, grammar, spelling, comprehension, and experience driving home your points to your local targeted market is critical for success.

How I write to the public and how I write to other Rainers is a bit different.  To the public, I'll be much more Sgt. Friday than humorous.  Give them the info they need, and good things can happen.

Hi Bill:

Well done overview of blogging fundamentals that work. I don't think they have changed much over the years which is often true of the basics.

Really good points and tips Bill. It all makes perfect sense to me.  I remember way back when in the early days of blogging and the rain I decided to write a ebook.  Coffee Shop Talk for 1st Time Home Buyers. And WOW did that ever bring in buyers  for my agents looking to buy foreclosures and short sales (time frame 08 -10 most likely).  I wrote as if I was sitting in a coffee shop talking.  I haven't thought about that in a long time.  It's what you're talking about and we learned this well on AR.  Fundamentals matter!

Hello, Liz and Bill Spear.  You certainly hit a home run on this post. Fundamentals and the basics are vital part of just about everything we do. I am glad there is a spelling and grammar checker when I write my posts. Getting back to the football season, I was glad it has started, but disappointed in my Dallas Cowboys as they seem to have forgotten how to block and tackle, basic fundamental football. Lol.

I'm a Cowboys fan too, and this year has been pretty painful.  I expected better from them.

Lew, it's the engineer in me.  Break down the complex to the smaller building blocks, practice and adapt.  My thought is the more successful other agents are with their blogging, the better for this community's longevity.

Liz and Bill Spear - checking in on the two of you to make sure you have power and that everything is okay due to Hurricane Helene. You're all in my thoughts and prayers.

Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP , you wouldn't expect a hurricane in Florida to knock out power in Cincinnati, but the remnants knocked out power Friday for over 100,000 homes in Greater Cincinnati, including us.  We were out from Friday at 4 until just a few minutes ago.  Time to shut down the portable generator and get things back to normal :)

Sep 29, 2024 03:48 PM
Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP

Liz and Bill Spear - I wrote a post about Hurricane Helene and it is because of Sham Reddy CRS that I found out about 60K residents were without power in Ohio and thought I better check to see how you're doing.

No. I never would have guessed Cincinnati to get slammed with a knock out power punch so swift it would affect so many people! That was a long time to be without power. I hope the days ahead will be bright, dry, and beautiful.

Glad to know you're alright.

Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP , The 2nd time in our 30+ years here a hurricane has come through with enough remaining wind to cause damage.  It has been a while, but Ike knocked out power for the better part of a week.  Fortunately we were on vacation with Liz's family at a beach house in North Carolina.  The dog sitter let us know when power was back on.  I did have a big locust tree that needed removed from our driveway, and of course the food in the refrigerator/freezer was not in good shape!  Now, we're pretty equipped for it.  We have battery packs for our phones, a mobile generator, and a couple of portable battery packs that can run 120 AC for a few hours to any essential gear.  All in all, it wasn't too bad.  We really needed the rain we've had the last few days, and once it dries up, it looks like I'll need to mow the yard :)
