Alternative to the Sandblaster
The Maryland Association of Realtors took its annual conference back to the beach last week.
After a few less than desired yearly conferences at the MGM National Harbor Hotel and Casino, which is located right outside of Washington, DC, the decision was made to take the event back to the Roland E Powell Conference Center in Ocean City, MD.
In spite of this event being planned well in advance of the scheduled date, the weather decided to book overcast skies and nonstop high winds for the entire 4 day period.
Additionally, somebody thought that it would be a good idea to dump their trash into the ocean, trash which included hypodermic needles and feminine hygiene products. Just in time for the conference, this debris washed ashore prompting officials responsible for swimmer safety to close the ocean from Rehoboth Beach, through Maryland's Ocean City and Assateague, and all the way down to Virginia's Chincoteague.
In our free time from the conference, we could still go onto the beach where we could get a nice sun . . . . I mean, a nice sandblast, which is great for removing unsightly moles, pimples, comedones, and such.
Since one could get no exercise by swimming, splashing, or surfing in the waves, there were other options like tossing a frisbee, a foam football, or whatever. With the frisbee, one would toss the frisbee into the wind, then turn around and sprint in the opposite direction, at least as much as one can sprint on the sand, in order to catch the fly away disc. With the football, even a professional quarterback would have had trouble throwing an accurate and tight spiral pass, however this did allow for some great diving catches.
Wednesday finally brought an opportunity for an exciting alternative to the sandblaster beach. Although the skies were still grey and the wind was still blowing, there was no rain and the wind had dropped to about 10 miles per hour. The thrilling adventure, which is new to Ocean City this year, is the ropes course.
At 21st Street, above Nick's Miniature Golf is Nick's Ropes Course. This is your chance to test your balance and agility, your chance to overcome your fear of heights, and your chance to have a fun new experience.
There are two height levels to the ropes course, where you can traverse tight ropes, wobbly ropes, spaced out boards, jagged balance beams, uneven bars, rolling pipes, and more. There is even a short distance zip line.
Don't worry if you make a misstep or a clumsy move, because they don't care, since you sign a waiver before making your way up to the ropes and because you are wearing a harness the entire time.
Oh, by the way, there was, also, the conference, where I made new contacts, met with old friends, learned the latest in real estate, and came back home ready to continue to provide world class service to my clients and customers.
