Having served in the US Army for 22 years, I understand the hassle of moving and relocating your family every three to four years, especially changing your kids’ schools often. Let me be your guide for all your housing needs whether buying, selling, or renting in the Greater San Antonio and surrounding areas.
I was encouraged to participate and write a 53-word post entry for the September challenge by my fellow AR associate and friend, Brian England after reading and commenting on his September entry. Unfortunately, my procrastination let me put it off until almost the end of this month, but I took the time to do some brainstorming with thoughts and begin to think about what I needed to write about.
I realize that over all my years in life, that I must have many experiences and stories to share. I thought about the most meaningful years that I ever went through, and it was my time in the US Amry that stood out the most. Being drafted in 1968, I never thought that I would end up making a career in the military, but I went to Viet Nam in 68’, served two tours to South Korea, once to Germany, and Belgium. My stateside assignments included times at Ft. Polk, LA, Ft. Lee, VA, Ft. Gordon, GA, Ft. Carson, CO, Denver, CO, Ft. Campbell, KY, and several tours to Ft. Sam Houston, TX where I received all my medical training and professional non-commissioned officers’ training.
I remember what it was like moving my family each time I came up on orders to relocate to a different assignment. Our daughter, Kimberly, from kindergarten to 8th grade had moved four times, and I retired from military service by the time she started high school in the 9th grade. It was a big adjustment from her transiting from military schools to civilian schools, but at least she didn’t have to move anymore.
Moving often can be very stressful for any family, and certainly presented its challenges. Therefore, as a REALTOR® helping other veterans, I truly understand their situations and circumstances for relocation. So, writing this 53-word challenge about military relocation wasn’t that difficult.
