GROUNDS FOR CELEBRATION!

IT'S NATIONAL COFFEE DAY: SEPTEMBER 29

WAKE UP AND SMELL THAT COFFEE!

"I can't imagine a day without coffee! I can't imagine!"

... Howard Schultz

Cat faces before and after coffee

What's more luscious than waking up to the smell of fresh brewed coffee?  September 29th is a special day for coffee lovers and admitted coffee-holics (like me)!  It's National Coffee Day!

National Coffee Day  happens to be one of my two most favorite "food related" days of the year (the other being World Chocolate Day). Click for THE ULITMATE GUIDE TO DIFFERENT COFFEES.

Coffee is always a good idea

For all the "coffee-holics" out there (and I'm unabashedly one), I firm believe that coffee should be its own food group. National Coffee Day is a great reason to go out and celebrate with an extra cup or two of coffee! As far as I'm concerned, coffee is always a good idea!

"Sometimes I go hours without drinking coffee. It's called sleeping."

... Anonymous

If you know some truly serious coffee lovers did you know you can send them an e-card to mark the day, so why not surprise them with a free e-card to celebrate National Coffee Day?

Things to do today.... make coffee

Facts About Coffee:

"No matter what historians claimed, BC really stand for 'before coffee.'"

... Cerise Sinclair

  • 2+ BILLION cups of coffee are consumed DAILY worldwide! (Have you ever wondered... how they count those cups?) I know I contribute to that number... as I'm now on my fourth cup of the morning... and the day is still young!

  • 400+ BILLION cups of coffee are consumed ANNUALLY worldwide!

  • Specialty coffee sales are increasing by 20% per year and account for nearly 8% of the $18 billion U.S. coffee market. 43% of coffee drinkers opt for specialty coffees.

  • Coffee has been around since 800 AD, having been discovered in Ethiopia.

  • As a world commodity, coffee is second only to oil.

  • Coffee consumption has hit a two-decade high post-pandemic. 83% of Americans drink coffee regularly according to The National Coffee Association. 66% drink coffee every day, up 14% since January 2021. 84% of coffee drinkers now drink coffee at home. Some 150 million Americans drink three cups of coffee every day. (I know I do my share to contribute to these statistics.)

  • Cappuccinos and lattes are tied for America’s most popular coffee, followed closely by plain espresso and cafe mocha.

  • 41% of coffee drinkers use a drip coffee maker, followed by single-cup systems (27%), cold brewing (9%) and espresso machines (8%).  Popularity of single cup brewing machines has soared by nearly 50% in the last five years.  Americans are 24% less likely than in 2015 to prepare their coffee in a traditional drip coffee maker.

Brewing The Perfect Cup Of Coffee:

"Adventure in life is good; consistency in coffee is even better."

... Justina Chen Headley

Perfect coffeeHow to best brew a cup of perfect coffee seems to be a never-ending conversation amongst coffee lovers. I grew up drinking coffee that was percolated on a stove top. I still think that's the tastiest coffee I ever drank. And, oh, the aroma of that percolating coffee! Sadly, my mother's percolating skills did not pass down to me.

Over the years I've experimented with all the coffee brewing methods -- percolating, automatic drip machines, manual drip, coffee presses. When we built our home in 2006, I opted for a built-in Miele coffeemaker and have never looked back. There's just nothing like a freshly brewed cup each and every time. The major drawback to this machine (besides how expensive it is) is  that you can't use flavored beans in it. So when the mood strikes me for a flavored cup of coffee, I go back to my automatic drip machine.

"Life is too short for bad coffee."

... Joseph Baumel

Whatever your favorite method of preparing coffee might be, here's information on how to brew that perfect cup of java:

"I believe humans get a lot done, not because we’re smart, but because we have thumbs so we can make coffee."

... Flash Rosenberg

Hello Nina - compliments on the clever post title.  And it complements the many other celebrations that have been experienced this month.  And the next one too.  It seems to me, planting such seeds may require managing of priorities.  And I imagine that such a day exists.

Happy Everything Everyday - it's a sentiment that's in favor.  Or is that flavor.  I digress.  ☕☕☕   Okay, just one more cup.  Really. . .

Michael Jacobs thanks, Michael... while we can celebrate something every day... there are a few days that I'm always "all about"... shelter pets, coffee, chocolate.

Nina- we're on the same page...the COFFEE and CHOCOLATE page!!!  I'm about to have my 3rd cup of coffee but not my last for the day. I too grew up on the aroma of coffee being percolated in a pot on the stove. Years ago we bought a Jura Fully Automatic Coffee Maker and love it.

Sep 29, 2024 11:13 AM
Nina Hollander, Broker

Kathy Streib hi Kathy... I just made my fourth cup of the day! For some reason I've never found that any other method than percolating ever provided quite the same aroma. I used to put coffee beans into small cloth bags in my pantry... now coffee beans are so expensive I'm not sure I can afford to do it anymore!

I guess I am the exception.... four decades ago I was doing so many cups of coffee and espresso that when someone said Hello I was looking for hidden meanings.... Now with that said for the past six or more years I have one mug of home made coffee (yes coffee snob too) and that is it until the following morning. Endre

Hi Nina,
It looks like I missed celebrating National Coffee Day, but I did not miss having my coffee yesterday. I'm surprised that 41% of coffee drinkers still use drip machines.

I always thought BC meant "Before Carol". 😂
