Dunedin Pier in Dunedin Florida is the subject of the photo above. As you can see from this photo, there was a lot of damage to the pier. I was going to upload a video that I shot this morning but try as I may, I could not figure it out.
For those wondering about the boat in the background, it WAS in the water prior to Hurricane Helene coming through. All of this damage is on the intercoastal waterway. The land you see in the background is Clearwater and some islands in the intercoastal. If the intercoastal received this amount of damage, I can only imagine what Clearwater Beach looks like. They have opened the causeway leading out to the beaches but ONLY for residents who evacuated and have proof that they live out there.
There is a hotel next to the pier in the photo and the ground floor rooms are full of water. As you drive streets near the water in low-lying areas you can see piles of furniture, carpeting and padding on the side of the road for city trash trucks to pick up and remove.
When moving to our area, you definitely need to ask about the different flood level zones and about areas prone to evacuation orders. Those are areas I prefer not to sell in unless the client has their heart set on it and I have explained all scenarios. Florida is a beautiful place to live but you need to choose your location carefully and for the long term with global warming taking place at an accelerated rate!
